I just got prompted for this today on the way home. For though who want the full text, see attached. Funny enough I have a 2020 4s, which has never had plug and charge... I wonder if I'll magically get it, but I am not getting my hopes up.
Is it possible to "wear down" the newer cells first? (I'm wondering if the battery can be wear-levelled similar to how an SSD controller can level out the cell wear - I know they're different tech, just wondering if the maintenance philosophy carries over)
Yeah I was more worried I needed to do something urgently. If the range continues to drop dramatically I'll book it in and see if I can get a battery warranty claim before the warranty is up.
Yeah 100% agreed - I get that cost is a factor but I really wish they had just given me a whole new battery... if only wishes were horses.
Thanks for relieving my rising panic about the battery!
Yeah the range has absolutely suffered. I kind of suspected it was because they put brand new modules in. Thanks for confirming that. How does the software determine "very likely failed" ? Is it just based on the voltage deviation between the cells?
Welp, this is interesting. The battery was supposedly repaired under ARA4 late last year. This is after ~25 minutes of driving; the first scan before driving the red modules were all yellow. I guess it's time to book an appointment with the dealer for a battery health check...
This more or less mirrors my experience at the last service, where I had a bunch of battery modules replaced. It took them 11 weeks to actually return the car to me (edit: two of these weeks were actually Thanksgiving and Christmas so let's call it 9 weeks actual "working" time). The only reason...
I generally avoid first-year models of any car for this reason.
I broke this no-first-year rule with the Taycan (I thought I *might* be safe with a later production date) and wish I hadn't. In my case getting a 2nd year Taycan likely wouldn't have changed the number of recalls I've had to get...
I received this email as well - mine states it only applies to 2020-2023 taycans (of course YMMV.)
I look forward to this - I recently had my HV battery repaired through a different campaign - I think ARB5? (whichever one required the entire thing to be crated and set via DDR crate to...
I've no doubt he's had to repair some number of batteries, but the recall Tooney linked makes me think what this person is seeing is likely that defect and not a pervasive problem. . I do think his tone makes it sound way worse than it likely is.
I would like to know the vins that he's repaired...
Knowing the vin range this person has seen this happen on would be helpful to figure out how accurate this report is.
Thailand does get quite a lot of rain. I wonder if a bunch of these are just cars owners have driven through deep water not realizing the risks.
Two full charges seems excessive; when I had my battery recall done they needed to drive the car, but they told me 100 miles. I snooped on their drive with the app and did about 90. They did leave the car parked overnight at the managers house. I got it back a couple of days later.
I should be getting mine back today (1/9) or tomorrow; the battery was installed yesterday and they took it for a "calibration drive" (with my permission) of around 100 miles. Seems the turnaround was a bit longer than 6-8 weeks quoted to me but Thanksgiving and Christmas are in that time window...
I got the ARB7 letter as well, mine was built in august 2020. Of course my car is at the dealer already for arb5... I wonder if ARB7 will apply after that is complete..
Yeah I don't blame you. I have been thinking about trying a different dealer; we'll see how this major recall goes before I decide..
I've put over 600 miles on the Macan. I'm waiting for my advisor to get an estimate from porsche/vendors on when the battery repair will be finished and shipped out.
Thanks for the ntsb link. My battery is undergoing this process now. I was curious why it had to be shipped, but my Porsche center did not have an answer.
Now it seems like the answer is "because we contracted a third party to fix these"
I'm going through this process now too. My dealer told me six to eight weeks for the whole process. They'll have had the car for three weeks tomorrow, and the battery was allegedly sent out this past Friday.
I'm not sure accurate their estimates are as my car is only the second one they have...
I'm curious about these too. They look like a great replacement for the Continentals. Which variant did you get? The website seems to list several different ones from all season to summer performance
