We all know Tesla is the leanest manufacturing program in the world, updating the line hundreds of times a day — with no concept of “model years” corresponding to product design/features. Porsche, like everyone, is going to have a very difficult time scaling the Taycan to 500 cars produced a...
I’m going to buy a second EV. It has to be at least as good as Tesla or better. That really leaves only one choice, now does it? I was really in the market for a 992, Spyder/GT4, etc. But I just can’t pull the trigger on some dino burner with transmission lag, combustion lag, turbo lag...
To add, Tesla is massively unit profitable. It’s investing in hundreds of other businesses, like any startup would. It’s a vertically integrated auto tech play — that has a lifetime financial relationship with the customer always online. It is not “bleeding cash”, it’s innovating and developing...
You’re confusing a lot of things. BMW reports monthly sales, so Tesla is always 2-3 months behind. The Model 3 has the highest sales in the United States, more than Toyota Camry. That is, total dollars sold. Camry sells more units but at a much lower price.
Tesla started sending some cars...
Tesla doesn’t care if investors understand the business plan, and the things they’re working on don’t have positive cash flows next quarter. That doesn’t mean they’re insolvent or need reorganization. If you’re an INVESTOR, you are taking a 5-10 year view on the disruptive innovations they’re...
Yeah I owned a 981 and have driven most of Porsche’s recent lineup 2015-2017 on a racetrack.
Regarding quality, the 981 had a broken active cruise control system that they were never able to fix, so I just didn’t have cruise control. Tesla can easily fix these things without a service visit, or...
Central power plants running at high efficiency, even if powered by coal, are better than vehicle-local engines. It’s basic, back-of-the-envelope math. Once you stick liquid fuel in car, you’ve already lost. The best argument is we can power all of our national transportation with the...
Honestly I can’t imagine how Detroit is sustainable. Tesla creates controversy, which creates bad press. But doing things like giving a generation of workers healthcare for life is not sustainable. Selling cars with emissions is a liability forever that you can be repeatedly sued for. Selling 15...
Keep them in business? They have the top selling car in America. 1 sedan sells more than all BMWs combined.
It’s the legacy manufacturers that are going to struggle to stay in business. Any tech company can build a car now, and probably a better one than 99% of cars sold today. The only reason...
We all know Tesla is the leader in smallest length of wiring harnesses. That 4500 pound Porsche probably has 300 pounds of wiring in it. Tesla Model Y is supposed to be down to 20 pounds.
Theoretical labratory fast charging is great, but Porsche’s US charging network is basically a bunch of 50...
OK, so I guess the Taycan is so inefficient it needs an 800V system. Otherwise it would have like 500 miles of range, right guys? Maybe someone can tweet @elonmusk I bet he has never heard of 800V drive systems and 48V auxiliary systems. Some real next level stuff on that 150 mile Audi.
What you said makes no sense. High battery temperature is the definition of efficiency. High motor temperature is what forces performance limiting. The Model 3 has no problems with performance limiting. Having tracked it myself as many others have, I can confirm there is no degradation in...
Listen, nobody is buying a $120k Taycan to baby the accelerator. If you want 310 miles of range, get a $40k Tesla and drive like it’s a Prius. You’ll be lucky to get 200 miles out of the Taycan driving it as intended, and that’s probably OK.
There’s nothing to do. You remove the subframe and replace the motor if it fails. It takes like 1 hour. After that, it’s just typical brakes and suspension and wheels aftermarket work.
Model 3 owner here. Looking at a Taycan, over GT4 or a 992. I’m addicted to electric performance. Tesla doesn’t have an options sheet like Porsche, so you get a crappy suspension and crappy brakes as standard.
Model 3 Performance owner here, former 981 2.7L PDK owner. I only get about 240 miles of range on my “310 mile” battery. If you use the air conditioning, you immediately lose >20% of your range. I put proper 235 width front and 265 width rear staggered tires in Michelin Pilot Cup 2. Even at 45...
