100% yes on Pilot Sport 4S -- although I haven't seen the Pilot Sport 5 (I assume there will be a 5S?) to say whether the PS4S is the end-all/be-all tire!
I put NA0 spec MPS4S 295/35ZR20 rears on my Taycan 4S when it needed replacement. NA0 = 911 spec, but I figure being approved for a Porsche...
Ah, you said day, not weekend. :) Definitely accurate in my book. Here's what I spent for my track day:
$2100 for 4 Michelin tires from Tire Rack + installation at my local independent Porsche repair shop
$1100 for new OE brake pads at the same shop
$200 for brake fluid flush
$425 for 1 day...
I suggest doing an Intro to HPDE event with any track / DE club. PCA in Texas also does it. The intro events are <$350 and provide good classroom plus instructor time to safely learn your car's limits.
Has anyone gotten throttle, brake, and steering angle inputs into Harry's Lap Timer on a Taycan? I have a GoPoint Bluetooth OBD II dongle that I used with my 911, but it didn't work on the Taycan.
Tracking an EV makes me have even more respect for the engineering of Formula E. And the Taycan Turbo S as the Formula E safety car -- I don't hear any FE drivers complaining about how slow the Taycan is around a track! :giggle:
Many of our EV track day problems would go away if a 350 kW fast...
Here's a 2:38 lap in my 2020 Taycan 4S from the PCA Schnell Fest event on 2/25/2022:
This is 5 seconds faster (!) than my previous best time at COTA in the Taycan, and I attribute much of it to tires. I swapped out the factory-installed Michelin Pilot Spot 4 summer tires for MPS4S in...
I think the black aluminum interior trim gets replaced with leather if you pick any full leather or Olea interior option. I saw a GTS sedan at my dealer the other day, and it did not have the black aluminum interior trim in conjunction with black full leather interior.
My guess is black...
Finally got photos from the track day photographer. The Taycan is pretty (maybe not as pretty as a winged GT3!) I did have enough pace to catch a 718 GT4 in the corners and get a point-by! :)
I have plenty of tread life left in the tire for street driving after 17 laps. It probably won't hold up for another track weekend -- such is the price of a heavy vehicle!
I came from a 997.2 6 speed manual, and in my first HPDE session at COTA with my Taycan 4S, I matched my PR. Here's a video of one of the laps:
The Taycan 4S is a vastly superior daily driver compared to the 997.2. On a track, you definitely feel the weight. I don't know if I could go back to...
@daveo4EV Great videos! Robb definitely has an efficient line. His turn-in points at COTA T11, T12, and T15 are much earlier apex than I've been taught, but it's possible that's the difference between a pro and what's taught to an amateur! The input traces are similar to what I've been between...
UGH, bummer about the travel plans. But I am envious that you've got a Taycan and GT3 AND travel to racetracks around the country -- that's on my "someday" bucket list. :)
@daveo4EV SWEET video!! Were you ever in Austin, or did you visit with the GT3 for a track event? I'm always entertained watching the line other people take. I missed not being able to throttle steer like a RWD car, and the overlap between regen and mechanical brakes made it hard to get the...
I went to the Taycan Roadshow hosted by PCNA at the Driveway Austin racetrack this past Friday. Although aimed at prospective Taycan buyers, it was great to meet with very knowledgeable folks from PCNA to talk about the Taycan. Several Porsche Track Experience instructors were also on hand for...
@daveo4EV my first session was 6 laps, including the first out lap on cold tires. By the 6th lap (i.e. 5th hot lap), I hit 131 degrees and it was break time. I consumed ~9% per lap. Computer showed 1.1 kWh/mile, which is about right given COTA's 3.4 mile length.
Closest DC charger was 8 miles...
This was one of my fastest laps yesterday. My 2020 Porsche Taycan 4S (with Performance Battery Plus) is my first EV. I have previously owned two Porsches -- a 2009 911 Carrera and 2018 Macan.
This track day was hosted by the Hill Country Region chapter of the Porsche Club of America (PCA HCR)...
Is yours a white one with Sport Design fascia and Mission E wheels? If so, I saw it at Porsche Austin on Thursday 4/8. My 2020 Taycan 4S received its software update successfully (waited 2 days, took another 2 days for the update.) But I heard the car after mine (the white one) was not waking up...
