I recently visited the US for 2 weeks. I was thinking it is maybe interesting to share my impression of the current status of EV's on the road in both continents.
Off course I can only compare a part of the US with a part of the EU. But I assume they are comparable in size, number of inhabitants...
Me too. Need to have always a view on Waze for speed traps. Plus, the androidAuto waze app does not allow to see the route overview with the mobile speed traps. That is only available on the app on the phone.
In my country driving without Waze would cost a lot of money (and a driver license)...
Thanks for the info (and sorry for the off topic questions). What do you mean with the door handle sensor ? So you open the door, move out, close the door. And then ? Push the door handle on the outside and it moves back in and closes the car ?
mmm ok, so it just saves you one press of a button when unlocking, but you still need the key in reach to lock after driving. In undermines the full use case of just keeping your key somewhere on you (in a backpack or purse)
That explains why they did not explain it in the documentation. It...
I don't have comfort access. I found a description how it behaves when unlocking the car. But not about how it locks the car.
Does it lock the car when moving away from the car ? (like Tesla)
(I am asking because I could pay extra to enable it with over-the-air updates)
By the way: the fact...
The car reports about 400km in summer at 100% (RWD standard battery).
That is realistic for combined traffic (highway+local roads), on the highway the real range is probably around 350km.
Maybe it is more useful to spend government money on improving the charging infrastructure instead of temporary tax credit for buying cars.
The government should do the things that can't be easily done privately.
So this could make sense if some of the money goes to infrastructure.
The charging network in Europe should be better than in the US. We will phase out ICE cars faster than the US. No ICE cars in many cities in 2030. No ICE cars sold in 2035.
I understood it will not go that fast in the US.
I did not see it myself but in the media it looks like China is also...
I have the feeling there is also some sentiment against EV's from the working class leftwing side because the have the feeling EV's are only for the rich. And that somebody else with more money should fix the climate change problem. They have more basic problems to solve for themselves.
They see...
I say that I was tired of spending time at going to gas stations.
I say it just to be first before I get the argument that I probably waste a lot of time charging the car. That EV's are not usable because they charge so slow.
And it is not a lie. I do save 3 hours per year. That is the time I...
Since you have a battery in your car, there is no need to carry the solar panels with you. You can install the solar panels on the roof of your house.
I work from home every other day, so I have time to recharge the car during the day when the sun is shining.
Combine your Taycan with a roof full of solar panels + home battery. Depending on your climate and how much you drive, you should be able to drive 100% clean 8 to 12 months per year.
Don't go for grey in a rainy grey country like the UK.
Grey is nice on boring car like a Volkswagen Passat.
A Porsche deserves a real color. I vote for green, red or blue.
Two years later, it is announced now:
https://newsroom.porsche.com/en/2022/products/porsche-taycan-model-range-software-update-2023-model-year-29112.html?fbclid=IwAR1O4Wde2WE43y7iwj4N0g92Sy3_vzPsJjkc7Lyb9qVd5yPczX8fR8cpBeE&fs=e&s=cl
I totally understand the feeling. Also coming from a model X. Sometimes I enter the Taycan, press the brake and wait until the door closes automatically and nothing happens..... Very disappointing.
I don't want silly options like ambiant lighting, analog clocks, compasses, dead cow skin...
