Wow! $4,500 for a 10 year warranty. The Porsche 3 year extended warranty I got at time of purchase on MY 2020 , valid until December 2027 was for $4,600 US (converted to USD). If I lived in Florida or California, I would ask if they do home owners insurance.
Almost all my driving is urban and suburban with home charging, so electric is perfect. If I did a lot of long distance driving, given our winters and poor charging infrastructure, I probably wouldn't. Whether the next electric is a Porsche remains to be seen depending on what the alternatives...
Of course it doesn't. By the time it went through this test it had gone through the battery, motors, drive train, drag, rolling resistance plus other stuff. The numbers are what the numbers are.
Yeah, it's all in the battery size. If all the cars were as efficient as the Tesla the ranges would be:
Model
Battery KWH
Energy Consumption KWH
Actual Range Reported (miles)
Range With Tesla Like Efficiency (miles)
Taycan PB+
97
3.8
368
455
Tesla Model 3 Long Range

4.7
352
352...
The most serendipitous thing that could happen to an older Taycan is for the battery to fail in about year 6 of the warranty and you get a new replacement under warranty. I dream about this.
When I bot my 2020 4s, it was with the intention of holding for 6-8 years so I also got the extended warranty. Subsequent events, ie. resale value, have, made this the most realistic option. If resale had held up, I would have a considered the Macan EV as I am getting older and don't have too...
You have your choice between two Taycans that are equipped with all your preferred options in the same apparent physical condition and are aware that battery condition is important.
Jim is in his mid seventies and drives mainly about town.
Bob is twenty something lives in the desert southwest...
Snow and cold isn't going to damage the car. The one thing you should do if cold and traveling, is to charge the car the day before when the battery is still warm.
But the visible wear and tear doesn't really tell you the how the car was driven and the condition of the battery especially given that the car is still not very old. California Advanced Clean Cars II proposes a dashboard SOH indicator for 2026 and beyond but doesn't help with the current crop.
There is a way to do a controlled test of whether Porsche has learned anything from the Taycan. Has anyone compared the cost to lease of a similarly equipped Macan EV with a Macan ICE ?
Just curious.
Porsche has a market cap of about $82 billion and the Cayenne and Macan are by far the largest component of sales.
For 2021 (most recent year I had data for)
