  1. Scared to ask... anyone tempted by Model S Plaid?

What does my spouse have to do with this?
  2. Scared to ask... anyone tempted by Model S Plaid?

What did you say? We are in a Porsche EV forum and its weird people who criticize? Continually amazed that when someone says that it's not all unicorns and lollipops that they feel their car and themselves are under some sort of attack. The Taycan is not going away, its got some great...
  3. Scared to ask... anyone tempted by Model S Plaid?

And time marches on and the competition improves. So Porsche should just sit on its ass saying I am the best? And the fans "yup you are".
  4. Scared to ask... anyone tempted by Model S Plaid?

Back to your old pejorative style of responses? You are just as tribal as any fanboy out there who has lost the ability to think for himself. No wonder we end up with crap lying politicians, because the tribe doesn't question them. Efficiency shows in the Taycan versus the new crop of cars...
  5. I’m not a robot

Doesn't happen to me. Possibly space aliens?
  6. Jump starting other cars

Thanks. And don't do something stupid like I did. Like keep your NOCO in the frunk.
  7. 85 % Battery charging - where does this recommendation come from?

Some more information. Not all manufactures disclose the size of their buffers and not how much is at the high end or low end. Tesla uses a smaller buffer of around 4% and Porsche a larger buffer. Depends on the confidence the manufacturer has in their batteries and their risk of getting it...
  8. Jump starting other cars

Not recommended. The 12v battery doesn't have the power to jump an ICE, if that is what your girl friend has. A quick google search will explain why. Get a NOCO and carry it in the car. Just make sure it's sized correctly.
  9. 85 % Battery charging - where does this recommendation come from?

With respect to battery usage, I would disagree. Tesla has had many years to get is 400v architecture and power train to the most efficient state. It shows they get good range with smaller batteries (ignore the EPA over ratings). The Taycan has only had a few years with its 800v...
  10. 85 % Battery charging - where does this recommendation come from?

You can charge to 100% just before leaving on a trip. Just not recommended to let it sit there at 100%. You aren't likely to charge to 100% on a DC fast charger as it will take to long.
  11. 85 % Battery charging - where does this recommendation come from?

Lithium Ion batteries will deteriorate more quickly when fully charged so the recommendation is to charge to a lesser amount on a regular basis. And the Taycan uses Lithium Ion batteries from LG Chem. You know, those guys who make marsh mellow toasters.
  12. Two irritation points after a year of ownership…

I would add the placement of the clock on the drivers screen which gets hidden by the steering wheel and the teeny weeny digital clock on the sport chrono which I can't read anymore. A proper/clock compass would have been so much better. And Hey Porsche. She takes her time responding and when...
  13. Scared to ask... anyone tempted by Model S Plaid?

You need to stand back to see the big picture. Tesla has been making 400v batteries for many years and has a highly developed power train that is very efficient with those batteries. Porsche introduced 800v batteries only a couple of years ago which required them to design and build a whole...
  14. Transmission and recuperation -- can you answer how it works?

Here is what Porsche says about the motors and braking. Pulse-controlled inverters control the motors The pulse‑controlled inverter is the most important component for controlling the electric motors. In the Taycan Turbo and Turbo S, a pulse-controlled inverter is mounted on each drive module...
  15. Software update hasn’t fixed 12v battery issue (update) confirmed as main battery fault)

An update on the old 12v issue. I have not yet had the software update but it is scheduled for later in the month. I have found I can create (some of?) the conditions that triggered the original failure and have done so several times. The car needs to be plugged into the charger AND you...
  16. Cross Turismo Goes off Road

Wondering if this might not be the perfect car. Can do highway cruising, city driving, spirited driving and up a mountain.
  17. hmmm - my lovely Taycan is limited to 220 miles range - [Edit] I think it's the tires…

Apparently not. See above. Your argument should be that OPD is only slightly more efficient. Not that it is less efficient.
  18. hmmm - my lovely Taycan is limited to 220 miles range - [Edit] I think it's the tires…

I was looking for a slightly more technical article on one pedal driving as most of the stuff is pretty consumerist. So here is an interesting article from Eindhoven University of Technology. Since 2011 the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) is using an in-house developed battery...
  19. hmmm - my lovely Taycan is limited to 220 miles range - [Edit] I think it's the tires…

First the definitions from the manual. 1. Overrun recuperation starts as soon as you take your foot off the accelerator pedal and slows down the vehicle. You can configure the overrun recuperation strength. 2. When you press the brake, braking recuperation increases the amount of recuperated...
  20. hmmm - my lovely Taycan is limited to 220 miles range - [Edit] I think it's the tires…

It depends on the case as to which is more efficient. In the particular case of highway driving, where your speed is relatively constant, coasting is the more efficient strategy. If your speed is varying, recuperation will be better. Tesla uses a very heavy degree of recuperation and Porsche...
