This is the way.
My car wouldn't activate either, even after uploading my whole lease package and tax return and shopping history. After a week, I called and it was done right away.
Call.
The key difference here is that the charge rate was reduced just to increase profits. Fewer warranty claims at reduced power -- surprising to nobody.
I bet there are even fewer claims at a "5kW" maximum too, or a limit of 5 Launches per year. Any number of things they could reduce next just...
I'm very interested in finding a USA lawyer willing to take all this prepared material and turn it into a Class Action.
I don't even want the settlement/compensation, just a smack on the wrist to Porsche that they can't re-spec a car after delivery. That's what chafes. You sell one thing...
If I understood OP correctly, the law gave Porche only the option of Fix, or return/re-buy. No other financial accommodation or compensation was allowed.
It's probably the 208v that is common from 3phase service.
(240v is seen mostly in residential 2-phase)
208V is the most common voltage in commercial installations here in California anyway, and makes this Amperage limit more problematic.
I really appreciate OP sharing all this, and explaining the Canadian process. This feels so cut & dry for anyone else to follow the same, and sell back their car for ~90%. That's probably an attractive deal to some, but not others.
In the US, it would likely take something like a Class Action...
This is exactly the issue. An OTA update that cut your onboard charger from the spec/sold 11kW to 9.6kW, as shown in the arbitration.
They didn't mention Amps, but it's a reduction from 48A to 40A requested of the EVSE by the car, so your 48A Autel charger will now see only 40A draw from the car.
I'm still angry about this charger downgrade every day. 5 days a week I park at a commercial charger that can do 208v @ 48A and now my car charges slower.
It's impossible to talk about kW without also talking about voltage.
Porsche cut the maximum current consumption from 48A to 40A. That's the salient point.
This is a bummer because the Commercial chargers at 208v (USA) are most likely to have 48A, and now I charge slower there.
Today it's offering me the third OTA update in a week.
I don't dare. No more "upgrades" without a full document on what's changing. I did not want the last one, in hindsight. I should never have accepted it, so I could still be charging 20% faster.
Tesla drivers seem to enjoy getting...
This feels actionable. It's not an insignificant change to daily use. Charge rate is a meaningful part of the ownership experience, and often promoted as a product advantage.
How far down could they take this before people (and lawyers) feel differently? 30A? 20A?
My car came with an 11kW OBC, so to get that rate at even a generous 240v, they would need to allow 46A.
It is right in the spec under Standard Equipment:
E-Mobility
Mobile Charger Plus
11 kW On-Board Charger
Supply Cable for NEMA 14-50 Electrical Socket
Mobile Charger Cable
Marketing...
Right? I think most people know that. What I mean is that most commercial EVSE provide 208v because they are two taps off the 3-phase Wye. And 208v vs 240v is not relevant to the car/EVSE negotiation.
Agreed. I have to use an external monitor or information to see what the car and EVSE...
The installed L2 chargers at our (US) business center have 208v (commercial 3-phase source).
The EVSE advertises 80% Duty Cycle at the J1772 Pilot Signal (80x0.6), for 48A available. They are hardwired to 60A breakers.
Last week, my '24 Taycan 4S would draw over 9kW from this. Now, if they...
I feel like this is confusing to discuss as "kW" because that depends too much on the voltage at the EVSE, and it seems Porsche doesn't scale charging to the voltage.
I have an 11kW charger ("9.6kW" AC/DC OBC) but it seems what they actually did is cut the current the car would request from the...
The move would have been to remove the links before going in for any service, or really any reason at all.
Best chance now is to remove them, go to a different dealer and kindly ask for a recalibration?
