Yeah, trucks can't replace a good car.
But I'm now also aware that some outdoor stuff is just soo much better with a truck.
So the right answer is... both.
I bailed after 3 years, and am now waiting until Porsche has an EV that's truly ready.
Since nobody else has a decent sport sedan either, I tried something very different: Rivian R1T.
Which honestly has surprised me ... I now get why half the country likes trucks.
I'll be adding a Porsche...
Yup. Definitely a "different strokes" kind of situation.
For what it's worth, I totally get where you are coming from too.
It's just that going in, I though the Taycan could get closer to marrying the best of all worlds then it, in the end, managed (IMHO). An example for a car that for its...
The Taycan comes with some real trade-offs that don't make it a clear #1 as a daily driver - even outside of budget considerations, there's a number of convenience/capability aspects where it's substantially behind. (Porsche has done almost zero to close the gap via OTA over the last 3 years, so...
OMG. That's too funny.
I wish I had the time and patience to politely ask.
I hope we all do eventually see the full reimbursement, and also that a future generation of this car isn't such a shit show.
It doesn't drive like a Porsche, but it's also no longer worlds away from other cars that folks don't mind driving. But my point is less about the Model 3, and more about the Porsche.
If you're hung up about the Model 3, replace it with a Ioniq 5 N.
I think that's really the best option right...
I wasn't saying necessarily model 3. (Personally I think calling the refreshed model3 a shit car is writing it off too quickly, but to each their own). Go for BMW ev -those are better at the software than the Porsche is. Or Rivian. or Lucid. Taycan software is a shit show.
If 911 + Tesla (3 or S), or even 911 + another non-Porsche EV is an option - I would take that option without a second thought.
Not to start a flame war with anybody who is in love with their Taycan, but to provide honest opinion to somebody who is still on the fence: The Taycan is not a...
I moved from 911 + Model 3 to a Taycan. My wife kept her Model X.
Fit and finish is better in the Porsche, suspension & steering is better, seats are better, looks are better.
But Tesla is surprisingly good at many other things that I have now been missing. I underestimated how much good...
"We are notifying you that the brake hose might fail but don't have parts to fix it" is IMHO just a "look, we sent a letter, we're no longer liable" bullshit disclaimer.
One or two recalls, I can understand, but it's getting ridiculous. I've seriously lost count how many of these types of...
For me, it's been more about incremental weight & complexity than money. Now admittedly, that line of reasoning makes a lot more sense on a Cayman or 911 than a Taycan.
I just bought the charger replacement and submitted for reimbursement, will be interesting to see if that is impacted or not.
As a side note, it's kinda crazy that they gave up and said "here's $600 you can use to buy a charger" and the most likely source is a competitor...
100% this.
I've had 911 etc. before, and while not perfect (looking at you, 12v battery!) the reliability was acceptable. The Taycan is just a mess - and contrary to my expectation they haven't really sorted it out over the last few years. I've had more recalls on this car than on all Porsche...
Yeah, I specifically meant the "dealing with the salesperson" part.
The selection process is not really the buying experience for me - I do that without the help of salespeople.
And I agree that Tesla needs more options, especially when it comes to color, wheels and interior color and seats...
I think in 2024, it's more like this:
1- porsche makes a better sports car.
2- tesla makes a better EV
3- tesla makes a better daily driver.
4- tesla makes a better car for family road trips.
In my particular situation, (1) is important to me, (2)-(4) are important to the whole family...
I'm about 1-2 months from getting a new car myself, and Porsche and Tesla are both possible options.
Two factors to add to the criteria:
The buying experience and the service experience.
The buying experience is IMHO hands down better with a Tesla/Rivian/Lucid.
You pick what you want and press...
Apple Music and other stuff like that says nothing about CarPlay. Same with Apple watch/phone to unlock. Those are both supported completely outside of CarPlay.
I was hoping somebody could point me to Rivian stating the intent as part of the Gen2 announcements or Investment Day.
I can't believe I'm saying this - but I'm scheduling a test drive to see if a Model 3 Performance is a good car to tide me over until Porsche has actual EV sports cars.
Very similar situation in my household. We swapped a Model 3 + 911 for a Taycan.
Wife used to love the Model 3.
I used to...
