I can also see them looking good on the Geely Emeya (which is trying very hard to look like a Taycan without looking like it is trying to look like a Taycan).
Couldn't agree more. Too soon to tell why Porsche inflated the Mission E's, my fear is that they did so to accommodate what appear to be cheesy aerodynamic inserts.
My only use case that reveals an acceleration deficiency is when racing my neighbor in his 911. Luckily for me, he is too much of a puss to redline the thing, so I usually hold my own; but I would prefer to thoroughly embarrass him and his global warming ICE mobile. ;) So to answer your...
My RWD is a veritable snail off the line when compared to the Turbo S. But, its acceleration is still within striking distance of the 1987 Ferarri F40 which I have never heard anyone describe as a slow car. (And the Taycan is a nice family truckster with four doors and a backseat!) Perhaps the...
One would think that clever lads could accomplish this feat but they haven't yet. I looked into sound cancellation tech a few years ago for my factory, which contains some pretty noisy machines, and there were no good solutions to be found. So for the time being, my approach is to insulate the...
I haven't heard of any after market tech. I did, coincidentally, once own a Cadillac ELR with the noise canceling apparatus but I could not tell how well it worked as there was no way to toggle it on and off. My guess is that it works OK, but nothing really amazing. With the ELR, when I ran...
I have a few theories on road noise, and the elimination thereof. Beyond peradventure, tires make a huge difference. I have 20 inch P. Scorpions for winter rubber and they are supremely quiet. My summer rubbers are 21 inch goodyears and they are noticeably louder. Putting the tire issue...
Does anyone have intel on companies, such as RER in Colorado, who provide utilities in the US with "managed charging solutions" for EV customers? My electric co. has teamed up with RER to offer EV customers a $0.02 per kWh discount for off-peak charging. It costs nothing to join the program...
The best thing about mid-life crises is that we can stay in crisis mode for such a long long time and buy lots of cars to help us through our trauma! My next mid-life crisis car will for sure be the 718 EV (hopefully with something close to 1000 HP), and who knows, maybe even the rag-top...
Very good summary of the current state of affairs in the US regarding EV adoption vis. global warming. Maybe a bit of conjecture in the Inside EVs article, but it does capture how detached from reality both political parties are on the subject. If where you are headed is usually where you end...
What would be truly brilliant is an inflatable spare that fits in a Taycan frunk. Should someone find such a marvel of modern engineering, please post details.
I concur. When I first saw the unveiling, I thought that Porsche was really being shitty by making the Base and 4S front ends look clunky/cheap/crude because I mistakenly assumed that the Base (mint green) Taycan was the new Turbo and that the Turbo pictured was the Base or 4S. I was shocked...
Chunkier isn't the word! They now look like whitewalls. I entered my spec for my 21 vs a comparable spec for the 24 and I am not loving the new Mission e's at all. Headlights seem OK. New crease on the fenders is a bit meh.
I'm with you 100% on the lightweight/handling aspect. Although I arrived at the conclusion almost by accident. The Taycan RWD was only the second Porsche I had ever driven -- the first being a relative's old 356 (complete POS to drive -- sorry Porschephiles!)-- and I was instantly blown away...
Nothing wrong with nostalgia. I'm sure that the same folks who like using a dial-app on their smart phones would appreciate an ICE button on their EVs!
I'm still holding my breath on the headlights. Hard to determine from the pics if the new headlights are just running lights as on the macan ev. My fear is that the lack of nuance on the painted plastic pieces near the air intakes indicates that headlights may be lurking beneath the surface.
Sorry, didn't want to offend. And for sure did not mean to either condone or joke about gun violence. I wrote the post/scene as an intentionally sardonic metaphor to highlight the cultural differences between America and other countries regarding the defense of personal property. As a buddhist...
How about this scene:
NIGHT, SOMEWHERE IN MIDWEST USA, DARK SUBURBAN STREET
Idiot with duffle bag approaches a Taycan. Begins cutting fender to extract headlights.
While cutting fender, idiot glances at the side window and notices a sticker reading: "Vehicle protected by Smith & Wesson."...
