First big Taycan road trip - Thoughts / Suggestions?

A 1.5 second following distance behind a semi has a significant impact, behind a van or SUV you need to be about 1 second behind. If you have the power meter up you can see the change in power consumption there.

First big Taycan road trip - Thoughts / Suggestions?

Let's see, I left off at the end of Day 3. Since then it's been pretty straightforward but busy days. We arrived in Pasco Washington where we spend two days at six vineyards. The Taycan collected compliments at several. Here we are at Goose Ridge Vineyards. We also visited Badger Mountain...

(Brief!) Downsides of NOT having On-Board 150 kW / 400 V DC Charger

I'm thinking it's more if they open up. Tesla is slow walking this as hard as they possibly can.

"Don't drive an EV in [or to] Los Angeles unless you can charge at home" - Kyle video

Don't buy an EV unless you can charge where you sleep. That's just basic advice.

Just took this photo and you can very clearly see the differential wear. When we left both sides had roughly the same wear.

Range mode because the PIRM does its supposed magic only when in range mode. So far its magic seems to be limited to slamming on the brakes when it does a route recalculation. We have given up on range mode and the PIRM now.

First big Taycan road trip - Thoughts / Suggestions?

Day three started with a fine patina on the front of the car and not enough range to make it to our first charging stop. Because of the miscommunication with the hotel about which types of EVs could charge at the hotel we needed to backtrack about 20 miles and charge a cold battery a bit above...

First big Taycan road trip - Thoughts / Suggestions?

Got in a bit later than hoped. Too much fun chatting with winery owners. A quick 45 minute to one hour stop stretches into a two hour tasting and cheese plate a couple of times and it messes with the schedule. Here's Fluffy Fields Winery in Dickinson ND, mostly Marquette and Frontenac. The...

Just got a Warranty Extension Notice (AC system servo motors)

I suspect it may have to do with the battery warranty. Without active cooling during hard use and fast charging the battery will overheat and degrade much faster. Cheaper to replace some heat pumps than damaged batteries.

First big Taycan road trip - Thoughts / Suggestions?

After the issue finding a functioning charger yesterday we decided to check all of our potential stops today and found that while ABRP and Lorelai both think that the charger in Dickinson ND is functioning, Plugshare disagrees. We're sitting in the welcome center at Mandan ND at a 60 kW charger...

First big Taycan road trip - Thoughts / Suggestions?

Day 1. A short 334 miles today just to make sure our processes are down. Lorelai* and ABRP disagreed on the best route. Because we knew there was construction on the southern (ABRP) route (MN 2 and 200) we went with the northern route (MN 210) which is about the same distance and time but...

Why is overboost power less with the 25 than with the outgoing Rwd model?

Here's your answer. The new model shifts earlier. The torque curve on an electric motor is essentially a straight horizontal line. The horsepower peak would be at the shift point. You have the same acceleration curve, the same torque curve but because the motor doesn't wind out to 16,000 RPM...

Functions on Demand (FoD) phased out?

I installed Active Lane Keep, Innodrive, and Porsche Intelligent Range Manager using FoD 2 weeks ago.

Set your Porsche exterior color as app icon color on iPhone iOS and Android Phones

Darn, you're right. This is not something inside the app where you could paint a background and use transparency. It has to be pre-generated and in the app package sent to the store. That really limits the options.

Set your Porsche exterior color as app icon color on iPhone iOS and Android Phones

This showed up after I updated the app the other day. Didn't think much of it at the time. I'm only impressed if the app background works with PTS colors.

Display your Taycan at the Ames Iowa EV Display at the Ames EcoFair

Clash in the Corn! Nice. We might have run into each other last February I'm the committee chair for the Duluth regionals.

First big Taycan road trip - Thoughts / Suggestions?

I will be staying there and will keep an eye out for the potholes. In fact, the whole route is populated with almost exclusively Marriott/Bonvoy benefitting from a few years of 50% to 80% on the road leaving me with about 2000 night and super elite lifetime status. Can't be worse than the...

First big Taycan road trip - Thoughts / Suggestions?

That is an interesting tidbit. I'll make sure not to route beyond the hotel at the end of any given day.

First big Taycan road trip - Thoughts / Suggestions?

In my former life I spent quite a bit of time in Washington, Spokane, Wenatchee, Yakima, and a significant amount of time in Redmond/Seattle. Strangely, not much time in Oregon. Winery wise I'd love any suggestions you have.
