For the first 2 years I charged exclusively with DC fast chargers. I started with 225 mile range which dropped to 205 miles after 2 years.
Now after the last year where I have only charged in my garage with the Porsche 120V AC charger my range has recovered completely back to 225 miles of range! Apparently the HV battery likes being charged slowly on AC rather than as fast as possible, generating tremendous amounts of heat that the HV battery doesn’t like.
Of course 120V charging is not for everyone since it’s so slow but we keep it topped off at 85% normally and typically never drive the vehicle more than 50 miles a day and maybe once or twice a week we drive 100 miles in the OC/LA area. On the rare occasions we take it to Las Vegas or to San Francisco we only have to use DC fast charging once on the way out and once on the way back if we use level 2 charging overnight at our hotels.
I believe we will see very long life out of our base battery pack 2021 RWD Taycan long after the battery warranty expires due to our “around town” primary use case.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed…
