I wouldn’t say the bait & switch is required to sell these cars; it’s just a tactic some stores use to gain sales leads. You never know, sometimes people call-in, find out the car is sold, but weeks later the same trim is available…At least that SA has the client’s info and can give them a call. For me that would approach would have never worked since I knew exactly what I wanted. I find it hard to imagine someone looking for an ST switching to go to a sedan, since usually people go for ST because they need the rear hatch, not because they prefer the look of it. I can see maybe switching someone to a CT. That said, I didn't realize there are so many GTS sedans on the market nowadays that they require a bait-and-switch to sell, rather than just posting the sedan for sale. Market is changing quickly.
GTS (and even 4S/Turbo/Turbo S) are still very difficult to find (inventory or allocation)…I will speak more to this when I write my 2022 recap and 2023 outlook based on my experiences and what I’ve been told by my SA!

I'm not a SA, nor am I compensated by anyone. I'm a passionate Porsche person who's always happy to spread the gospel of the brand. I've always been interested in analyzing the car market, and I believe the Porsche ordering/purchasing process to be one of the most special in existence, even if the delays and constraints are tiring. Communities like TaycanForum contribute to my belief that Porsche is the best car manufacturer on Earth.
