Yep. I’m sure they can and do. Just don’t really understand why they block the owner! Anyway, hopefully never have to test it.
They block the owner in case you track down your vehicle wielding a sledgehammer to confront the hapless thief!

Guess I’ll just have to follow the AirTag then! Probably with the spare keys rather than a hammer though!

I spoke to Vodafone, who said they can't immobilise a car remotely, but that they could lock it only if the police instructed them to. This seems pretty unlikely - I have a tracker for insurance purposes but in practical terms it's pointless.

Odd they told me they could remotely immobilise.

It would be good to know for sure - I can’t find any written material that came with the car/tracker.

Interestingly, in the Porsche App, under Account —> Contact and help —> Theft report there is an option to call the “Call the Security Service to report a theft”

As standard the car (as all do) has an immobiliser.

PVTS+ (with Advanced Driver Recognition (ADR) - driver card / tracker fob)) is Thatcham Cat S5 which to spec incorporates remote immobilisation (S7 doesn't).

Vodafone therefore has the capability to issue a remote command to immobilise when conditions and permissions permit.

I can't find any written information from Vodafone or Porsche to this effect - can you tell me where it comes from?

Vodafone have said they will not immobilise the vehicle, but only that they will "lock" it, and even then, they will only do so if the police request this. In reality that is never going to happen.

I don't have a recording of the call nor will it be written down in the public domain. This is a Vodafone service and independent of Porsche.

The S5 (Google it) rating has specific standards for compliance and remote immobilisation is one of them.

If you don't want a tracker with the additional features then don't purchase PVTS as the car has an immobiliser by default (read the standard spec).

Off the record, as the car is always online, tracking is always possible and further aided by the presence of a GPS based navigation system.
