Morning all.
So here I was, test driving a Taycan GTS, didn't need a charge but wanted see see if it worked ok. I take a look on ZapMap, find myself an InstaVolt charger in Huddersfield and set off for a "quick" 20 minute top up. So as usual it's quite difficult to find but eventually I spot an InstaVolt sign and quickly proceed in to the empty bay just near the entrance for a top-up. Quick charge, and then leave.
A few weeks later I get a charge notice from Euro Car Parks forwarded from Porsche, advising me I failed to pay for parking. Can you pay us £60 now please or £100 if more than 30 days blah blah blah. It appeared, having now investigated, that I was in an Iceland carpark which outweighed the fact I was in an InstaVolt charging bay. There was a sign on the way in which I never noticed and even if I had I would have assumed charging was not parking and therefore not applicable. I never event left the vehicle.
I've appealed and am awaiting the outcome which I will inevitably lose but I'd rather drag it out as long as I can. Moral of the story, don't assume anywhere you charge is exempt from a parking charge. With Tesla you at least get a notice near the chargers usually meaning you have to, for example, pop in to a hotels reception to register for free whilst charging. I fail to understand why the likes of InstaVolt don't have an agreement in place for this kind of thing as it much catch people out all the time. I have looked on their website and it basically passes the buck although to be fair they did provide a letter asking them to waive the fee.
