Twice this week I received an "Unable to reach the set target charge" message from the Connect app about 90 minutes before the end of the preferred charging window. In both cases the car was successfully charged to the target rate of 85%. My profile specifies a minimum rate of 25% and a preferred charge window of 8:15pm to 6:30am. The lowest SoC I had this week was 46% so there was plenty of time to reach the target charge in the specified 10-hour window with a 40 Amp circuit for the L2 charger.

Normally I do not select the Precool/Heat option when charging. However on Wednesday I selected it to see what the impact would be on battery temperature at departure time. When I plugged in the cable on Wednesday evening, the battery temp was 60F. In the morning with Precool/Heat checked on, the battery temp was 69F and the SoC was 88% even though the target charge was set to 85%. I was surprised that the target rate was overshot.

It is a 'target' remember.

The message on the app can be rogue - I get it from time to time but generally ignore it as the requested target charge has been reached. Perhaps kill the app if it has been in the background for a while.

I had my first charging “anomaly” this morning and not sure why it happened. I don’t really have a set time I drive each day and some days I don’t use the car at all. I used to keep only a general profile set to 80% optimized (and that’s likely what I’ll do in summer again) but with really cold temperatures I think the general consensus is that it’s better for long term battery health to not have the car charge and then sit in the cold garage for long periods. So I have turned off the general profile and set two repeating timers. One for M-F at 7:45 AM (for the days where I sometimes drive my kids to school) and one for Sat-Sun at 9AM. No pre-conditioning is routinely set, as sometimes even when I charge I don’t immediately drive at the set departure time of the timer.

Last night I plugged in at around 50% and got the normal flashing blue “waiting” light. This morning around 7AM I noticed an "Unable to reach the set target charge" message on my phone when I woke up but the car was charging normally and was around 60% in advance of the 9AM timer so I ignored the message.

Sure enough, I checked the app around 10:30 this morning expecting the car to be done charging at 80% as usual but it was still charging. I unplugged at 10:37 AM at 93%.

Does anybody know why (looking at you @Jhenson29 in particular ;))? Screenshots of my setup are below. The only thing I can think of is that because my weekend timer that was set for 9AM does not repeat tomorrow (because as it is Monday it’s a different timer), maybe the car started charging again 30 minutes after today’s timer ended? That shouldn’t happen I don’t think with another timer set and I unfortunately didn’t check to see it had stopped charging from 9-9:30 to verify. Or perhaps this all had something to do that error message I got on the app. Screenshots of my setup are below.

Just when I thought I had figured the charging all out, it pulled me back in (he says in his best Michael Corleone voice)…

Thanks everyone.

The screen shot is showing direct charging enabled. With this, timers and profiles are overwritten and the vehicle is charged until turned off, or has reached 100% Charge.

Oh my. Now I feel dumb. Thanks! I have no idea why it’s enabled as I don’t recall ever selecting it but that definitely explains it. Thanks again.
