I did not spec the 22kW charger on my car, but I dropped it off at the dealership this morning for ANA6 update, and I notice the car is currently charging this evening at a rate of 22kW! It's using the "General" profile, so I don't believe this is DC charging. MY22 Taycan Turbo.

We don’t have 22kW AC charging in the US so if it’s that high, it must be DC.

Can't be DC, otherwise the profile would not apply? it's charging at the Porsche dealership. Or does it show "General" at the top when DC charging even if it's not applying the profile? I've probably used DC charging 2-3 times total since owning as I charge at home - so maybe I just haven't seen it before - PS, this is in the mobile app.

What side of your car is the charger plugged in to?

There are 22kW and 25kW CCS chargers, and many dealerships have these installed as they don't need the same beefy power lines but still provide a decent charge rate.

Sorry, you're not getting 22kW AC charging.

22 kW charger is not a simple software upgrade, it's different on board charging hardware.

So no, probably not.

I thought it did with the 22kW charger; isn't that the point of it?

i saw charging errors appearing my app, so wondered if they changed the module.

There is no 22kW AC charger in the US. There is no standard for 22kW AC in the US. There is no 22kW AC EVSE in the US.

AC charging maxes out at 19.2kW in the US as single phase 80A @ 240VAC. And you’ll see less at the car, due to losses. Probably mid to high 17kW.

22kW elsewhere (not US, or North America in general really) is 3-phase 32A @ 400VAC. It will be different hardware that does not work here.

It’s not charging at 22kW AC in the US.

22KW is useless to US market, the 22KW on board charger is designed base on 3 phase Europe 230V voltage, each phase current is 32A max, then we can get: 32x230x3=22080=22KW.

In US, we're using 1 phase 110v or 1 phase two wire for 240V, which means the charger may only can draw 32A current under 1 phase power supply, so maximum we can only get 32x240=7.6kw.

In your case, dealer may have 3-phase power as they're commercial user.

Do not waste money unless you have 3-phase supply at home.
