I have now had the AC charging port fail for a 3rd time. 2 times have been on the AC only (offside) port which I had predominantly been using for home charging. Now I have swapped around EV Charger layout and have started using the nearside (AC and DC Port) port for home charging - this port has now failed. In each case, the button function dies and the illumination of the button stops working, meaning that the cable emergency release has to be used. Now comes the odd part - The "broken" port (right now the nearside port with the non-functional button/led ring), does still work and the car can be AC charged (have not checked DC), the offside port with the still functional button/led ring/cable release, will not charge the car reliably - the charge starts and stops several times and then ends in "charging error", a small amount of energy is sent to the battery.

"Something" was swapped to fix the problem the first 2 times and I have not had the problem since last April. For the record I am charging single phase at home and have the onboard 22kW charger option. The home charger is not at fault, I have two chargers and two EV's the other EV has not problems with either charger.

Any thoughts, shared experiences, surely I cannot be the only one ?

22 kW AC onboard charger has not been Porsche's finest moment - many issues with it (search the forum) and an almost pointless (read expensive) addition IMHO. This may be the root cause.

There is no other 'charger' to consider here - your home wall box is not a charger remember, simply a source of supply of electricity to your car's onboard AC charger (your other EV will be 100% the same).

Yep get it with Home "Wallbox", i thikn you might be right with the 22kW charger, it could be the cuplrit. However I am in the biz as it were, as co-founder of RAW Charging Group, and often use our own 22kW capable AC chargers in the wild - maybe these are messing bits up :(

Suggest to reach out to @tigerbalm who has had at least 3 replacement 22 kW AC units on a prior Taycan and will undoubtedly have more to say / add on the subject.

The 22 kW unit had a software issue that impacted the harmonics and could (and did) lead to failure. Porsche rolled out a fix – alongside "the big update" towards the end of 2022 that resolved the issue.

Since then I haven't had a 22 kW failure. I am currently undergoing a DC charging failure – but current information suggests the 22 kW AC unit is fine.

From my perspective at least they have become a lot more reliable since that software was updated. It was single phase charging that would cause the underlying issue.

When I did have my many failures there was never a "side of the car" aspect to them. When it broke, it broke charging entirely.

Thanks for the info. Mine is a 2023 Turbo, so should have already had the updates added. I do lot of miles (12.5k in first year) and AC charging as I work for an EV Charging CPO. Not that any of that should matter it should be fit for purpose. The weird thing is the control button failures that accompany this issue, not sure if that is even part of the AC charging unit or some other auxiliary thing.

Have had same problem (stuck cable) with the 11kW charger. They had to replace it.
