At long last, I finally got a chance to test drive one. It exceeded my expectations in almost every way, and looks and feels very special. I definitely want one. The most amazing part is the ride quality-- its like a magic carpet. Feels a bit like a McLaren 12C I drove years ago. My heart literally skipped a beat when I walked up to it in the showroom (they had a red Turbo on display). Such a gorgeous car. I have also lusted after a 992, but after this test drive I no longer see the point (atleast compared to a PDK version). It looked great in all the colors they had in stock, but I think the gentian blue w/ high gloss black window surrounds was my favorite combo.

My only criticism is of the infotainment/instrument cluster/steering wheel control setup. I can't fathom what Porsche was thinking by not a) including a track forward button the steering wheel (in favor of a regen button that basically does nothing) b) not allowing you to use the scroll wheel to quickly scroll through a list of stations or tracks. I hope i'm wrong about the 2nd point, but I read through the owners manual and it didn't sound like it was possible. I also seem to remember that even if you program the diamond button the steering wheel to skip tracks, it doesn't work with CarPlay. That is crazy if its true ( i didn't bother trying carplay during my drive).

The missing next/previous track on the steering wheel is not a Taycan specific issue. They are missing from all Porsche models. However the other models have physical next/previous buttons under the infotainment screen so overall it is not as bad as the Taycan where you have to use the screen.

Not on the recent ones- check out the 992 steering wheel which is identical to the taycan except there’s a track forward button where the regen button is.

You can also say "Hey Porsche" to do this stuff....
I suppose. But that gets pretty tiresome when you’re just trying to flip through tracks or stations. Might be fine for selecting a specific station or track by name though

I thought I was the only one comparing a McLaren to the Taycan! Went to look at a GT. Was unimpressed but happened to pass by a Porsche dealership and got a Taycan instead.

After Spotify I no longer use radio, but on my Macan if the right instrument cluster screen was on the list of stations (favorites), you could use the scroll wheel to go to the next one. Does that not work anymore?

when I selected “media” in the cluster it showed the currently playing song. Now that I think about it, maybe if I’d clicked the scroll wheel again at the point it would’ve shown a station/track list?

Yes, it will if you are using the PCM (not CarPlay) for audio.
