First real world (customer) Taycan GTS driving video? calculating acceleration time

Hi all. I have been wondering for some weeks about the true real world performance of the Taycan GTS. As we know, Porsche always under-rates their 0-60 times. Case in point, the Taycan 4S is rated as a 3.8 second 0-60, whereas real-world testing shows a 3.4 second 0-60mph (Car and Driver 4S review). Even without rollout, that's 3.6.

So I decided to make some extremely rough measurements in the video using a stopwatch. When he hits the accelerator and the car shows 44 kph, (27 mph), I then timed to an indicated speed of 114 kph (70.8 mph). The result was 3.52 seconds. I'm pretty sure I'm not counting the initial jolt of acceleration before the speedo updated to 44kph from 40kph, but still, it's rough.

From the Car and Driver review 30-70 mph in the Taycan 4S was shown to take 3.8 seconds. So let's assume my measurement methods are okay, depending on where the recording of time starts (at the foot hitting the gas, at the 44 kph mark, at where the car indicates full power on the "tach), we can give a roughly 8-10 percent increase in acceleration over the 4S for the GTS in this.

Extrapolating that to 0-60, taking the (shaky) assumption that this speed factor would translate evenly to 0-60 (which not a completely bogus assumption considering the instant torque response of the car), we would apply a 10 percent correction to the 4S C&D tested 3.4 second 0-60 time, with rollout and get... 3.06 seconds.

Without rollout they measured a 3.6 0-60 on the 4S, which with a ten percent correction yields us 3.24. This very rough estimation method lines up with my expectations, as I was expecting them to produce a car that did a 0-60 SLIGHTLY slower than the Turbo's rated 0-60 time of 3.0s, but noticeably faster than the real world 4S numbers. 3.1-3.4 was my guess and I'm staring to feel that is quite realistic. Personally I think it has to be much faster than 3.4, probably closer to 3.2, otherwise the GTS would be a lot closer to the 4S in a real world test.

Later on I will try to use some better methods to count frames, and I asked the person who posted the car to please ask the owner to measure 0-60 for our benefit :)

Ha! Justin, I like your method! I have worked with actuaries for the bulk of my career (I am NOT an actuary) and I used rough armchair calculations in anticipating their real work. There were a lot of times when I was close.................and then sometimes not so much. But I do like your method and rational!!! And I really like it when it shows that my car is actually faster that what the factory says. ?
