Anyone else feel that the gear selector is counter-intuitive ? The number of times I push it up to go forward and off we go backwards !
Worse on the 911 where the selector is horizontal - push forward to engage Reverse.
Come on Porsche - think it through again.

To me the gear selector is logical the way it is ? It's the same as in Mercedes or Tesla models and other cars as well.

I don’t have this issue but an issue with the Braun Razor selector in the first place. Hidden from view, poorly implemented and should be replaced with a stalk / button on the steering wheel. Poor design (again).

To me there is no need to have it in sight. It can be used without seeing it. I think the location and the design is great. No need to change anything. And hell, please no additional stalk or buttons to select gears.

It’s a Porsche and so we need a stick of some sort. It is totally obscured from view when in the driving position - brilliant design NOT!

To maintain the “DNA” (yawn!) across the range why on earth is it not placed in the centre console?

What’s next, the steering wheel positioning is bad and should be in the middle of the car instead?
McLaren thought so (F1) at one point and I believe plan to in the Speedtail ;-)

Actually, the steering and driving position in all Porsches is as good as it gets typically so no need to go mad!

Personally I like my PDK stick on my Boxster and marvelled at Merc’s stalk orientated gear selector.

Up or down to choose D or R does not make a difference to me. Hey Porsche, please don’t change it the way MB did with the turn signal and cruise control stalks. I engaged CC many times when what I really wanted was to signal a turn.

It is all about muscle memory. Up or down does not matter. You have the read the letter D or R the first times.
on the other hand the location of the switch is not the best.

I don’t look at my gear shift in other cars, why do I need to see this One? Once you learn, as said above, the muscle memory kicks in and my hand knows where this control is and what direction it needs to go without seeing it. I like it being tucked away.

Going back and forth between a Taycan and a Tesla (push right stalk down to go into drive), I can’t tell you how many times I’ve turned on the windshield wipers in the Taycan when I wanted to go into Drive.

Right?! People bitch about the weirdest things in modern cars. It's fine and great the way it works. Out of the way and won't get bumped similar to a center console stick getting slammed into N or R while driving.
