We ordered our roof top tent from Design 911 - happy with the price & the service, would use them again.

We ended up with Porsche roof bars to go on our factory-option roof rails, ordered as an extra before the car arrived (although it was months after the car arrived before they finally came in to the dealer).

I can see how the Porsche bars mounting system could scratch up our “silver” aluminium roof rails but I decided I wasn’t worried enough to try wrapping them in tape or anything. After a weekend of camping on the car and a round trip of over 300 miles the bars didn’t look scratched to me.

From the pictures up-thread it does look like the Porsche bars sit higher. However, having modified and fitted the iKamper wind deflector I do wonder whether it’d have worked as well with less height between the roof tent and the panoramic roof.

Thanks Pete. Are the mounting points still metal on metal or is there any kind of rubber that might help to protect the roof rails?

And welcome to the forum...!

I want to say there’s some rubber-backed plastic but also some metal on metal contact.

At the rear, a flat vertical piece comes down and has two protrusions which “lock” into the holes on the inside of the rails.

At the front, it’s almost an L shaped piece of metal and that clamps round the “step” in the rails. Those two are brought together by tightening a bolt to 5Nm.

I’ll try to get a photo. Cheers, Pete

So hopefully you can see the vertical inner with the locating studs and the L-clamp outer and the rubber-faced plastic:

Here's the "ledge" on the roof rail the "L" clamps onto (this is a loan Macan, but the idea on the Taycan's roof rails is the same):

Here's the bolt which tightens the two together:

and in case useful, the roof top tent clamps sited roughly correctly (without being in the tent's channel obviously!) which protrude downwards 30-35mm from the bottom of the Porsche bar. I imagine there's plenty of clearance to the panoramic roof on Thule bars too though:
