Hi all,

New to this forum having just put my order in for a Taycan CT 4S. My first Porsche and can't tell you how excited I am.

My current car is a Tesla Model 3 Performance and speccing that car was almost too easy. Paint, interior colour and Autopilot and that's it!

The Taycan is an altogether different prospect with a list of options as long as my arm and no combination packs to take the hassle out of it.

This is my spec and I'm trying to keep at £100k or less can anyone tell if I'm missing anything or there is anything you'd lose?

Not convinced on rear-wheel steer (but defo power steering Plus), or 14-way seats - but accepted that these are personal choice items.

Things to consider....
  • Privacy Glass?
  • Mode 3 Charging cable?

I would skip ACC and try and find a way to fund the extended leather - you'll appreciate it each and every day. The car has cruise control and speed limited (camera recognition) control - do you really need distance control and the other bits it comes with?

LCA - good safety item and should be standard but alas isn't.

Privacy glass - most people take it.

Looks good on the confuserator in black but I'd be tempted to go chrome window surrounds to balance with the front and rear diffusers. If not, then go gloss black inserts with these for a full Batmobile experience.

Black tread plates / door inserts (they're free) are cosmetically better than silver (they are visible from within the car.

Sport Chrono is worthy of a challenge IMHO to help with manipulating your budget. What makes you want to have it?

Sport sound I would drop - it's meh and I rarely use it. Sounds quite good on the GTS however but even with the down changing blip (you get this on all Taycans MY21+) its barely audible. Again, a budget saver item.

You didn’t opt for seat heating or is this standard in the UK. In Belgium it isn’t.

Front seat heating is standard on UK cars I believe. I have two kids with car seats back so fairly pointless in the back for me.

I've had ACC on my last 3 out of 4 cars. It's something I missed when I didn't have it and occasionally infuriating when I actually use it. I originally specced with Innodrive but then realised you could access it on demand like LCA. I must admit I have toyed with the idea of dropping it, adding the red leather, gloss black the exterior trims and the red 4S stickers on the side.

Where's the black tread plates option? I must have missed them amongst everything else.

Sport Chrono, I've also added it, taken it away, added it again. The impression I had was it was almost one of those options you almost had to tick for better resale?

I was dead against the ESS until I drove the car and was like "oh, it's actually pretty nice." Pointless, I guess, but, again, seems to be one of those must-have things. The GTS version does sound awesome in the videos I've watched. I'm tempted to put another reserve down on the GTS ST even though it's more money, it does seem better value overall and more desirable.

Overall, how would you rate your experience of the car so far? There's a lot of things I will miss about my Tesla when it goes but the Taycan is in a different dimension build and handling wise. Once they added the estate/hatchback it seemed like a no-brainer!

I already have a couple of charge cables.

I figured with privacy glass I could always get a glass tint later on if I thought it was needed. I have two kids and I found the car interior pretty dark and cavernous even with the pan roof so wasn't sure it was altogether necessary?

Heated steering wheel I missed out - must have.

Public charging cable (as someone else mentioned) for those get out of jail moments when the only charge point available is an untethered AC device.

Sports Chrono - I think for ICE cars and on a 4S (and above) it was considered a must have but if you substitute with a compass it kinda invalidates that. For EVs it doesn't make a lot of sense unless you will be lap timing yourself on the way to Aldi's and back. Some folk detest the 'bump' / 'wart' on the dash (I am in that camp but can't avoid it on my forthcoming GTS ST), some folk think they need it to get Launch mode, and some folk simply just want it and resale is probably as good a reason as any (just in case). Most of the settings (apart from Individual mode) can be accessed from 'My Screen' on the PCM which is configurable. If you are on the fence then probably best to keep it.

Prices for Taycans are high (thanks to the pandemic and semi-conductor shortages) and so depreciation is a trickle (for now).

As a car I've grown to love it but after 13 months now I (like everyone else) having survived the various ups and downs I would not go elsewhere. It's been a baptism of fire (anxiety mostly) going EV but it has been more than worth the pain - it is a truly astonishing vehicle currently unmatched. In time there will be more (non-Porsche) options out there as one of the big levellers now IMHO is that the days of comparing cars (ICE) on an engine sound and capability have been blown away. All EVs offer something rather unique - seamless torque & silence (if you want it).

Personal taste, but how about the DarkSilver interior trim and/or contrasting colour (red?) seatbelts to break up the all-black interior?
I second the suggestion of matching the finish of window surrounds and the lower trims along sides and front & rear (either all silver or all black). Maybe match the roof rails too.

Be sure to check out the red leather - it is too bright IMHO (made worse in photos) and needs to be much darker e.g. Marsala of old but for sure a personal choice.

I wouldn't pay extra for dark silver - it is already black - if budget is challenged.

put a second reserve on a GTS ST today. 4th in the queue with the dealership but they haven’t even had an allocation yet. See what happens but the desirability/exclusivity factor of the GTS makes it seem like a potentially good investment even if I keep the 4S.

I would drop the cruise control and go full leather.

Electric charge ports are a must I think.
I'd lose 4 wheel steer as I had it previously and f#@ked a rear alloy leaving a parallel parking space. Had to go full lock to get out due to other cars parked so close and I couldn't get out without the rear wheel turning into the kerb and gouging itself... Total nightmare ?

Interesting what you say about the RWS. Part of my thinking was it’s such a big car that having the reduced turning circle might help preserve the alloys.
I wasn’t sold on the electric charge covers. The cars in the dealership had them and they seemed temperamental plus I’ve heard the motor housing interferes with the aero (probably makes almost no difference). I do like the detail they add to the car especially on lighter colours though. The gloss black on white looks really nice. However, I want a dark colour so it flies under the radar a bit more.

Yes I'm going for Ice Grey so the electric port adds a nice detail to the side of the car.
With regards to manoeuvring with rws, if you park close to a kerb and have to full lock to extricate yourself then the rear wheel will turn out and can contact the kerb. When it happened to me I had to be close to the kerb as I lived on a narrow street in London. I got boxed in at night by two other cars so I had to full lock to get out.
I hope my description is clear, I understand it's a fairly niche thing to happen but with thinking about depending on where you will be parking frequently.
I'm ordering the GTS ST as a family wagon so rws is of my radar anyway.
