Having just finished a 1000 mile road trip in my new-to-me Taycan GTS ST, here are my thoughts:
Pros:
Pros:
- Awesome speed. The car is deceptively fast. I have to often adjust how I drive and the lack of road and typical motor noises contribute to this feeling.
- ACC and lane keep and other safety features greatly assist with long distance road trips
- Styling is distinctively Porsche and yet very different and very modern. It's a thing of beauty when you see it out and about. The sport turismo proportions also looks perfect with visual weight placed on the rear 50% of the car.
- The drive system is sublime. I was able to feel and test out the front axel engagement in the wet and it drives like a sporty AWD car, some understeer, but all safe, forgiving and sure-footed.
- The issues with Electrify America appears to be way overblown. On my trip, I've never encountered a frustrating moment, and 3 of the 6 EA sessions resulted in charge speeds matching the maximum charge curve on the Taycan. (272 peak, 200kw average speed over 55 kw charged). This includes two charging sessions in CA, 2 in Oregon (where the slower speeds were encountered) and 1 in Idaho. The only time I had issues was on a EV Connect unit that required a phone call.
- PSCBs have an awesome stopping power. The initial bite is hard and aggressive. IMO, I cannot feel the difference between this and PCCBs. Haven't tested the fade yet, and I'm really hoping this is a lifetime part on the car like PCCBs have been on my 991.
- The variable light control roof is amazing. To me it's not a party trick, and will be used frequently as my kids often complains about excessive sunlight. The thermal coating and layers is noticeable too. Glad I held out for a car with the option.
- Rear wheel steering is a must solely just for making U-turns and maneuvers in tight space. lol
- efficiency is dead on accurate. On my road trip, I averaged about 3.8 kw/mile. It's about a 250-260 mile at full and 220 at 85%.
- Spacing is sufficient. Coming from an X5, I'd have to adjust. The frunk space helps hide valuables, which will allow me to run without the cargo cover full time. Time will tell whether this truly fits my lifestyle.
- As discussed here, the PCM has very limited features. Hard to believe this is a 2019 generation infotainment system.
- honestly that's about it, car still pretty new to me, but mostly just PCM related issues.
