hi all,

so 5 days to go until Macan reveal but everyone seems to say 100kwh and 95% useable and maybe a stupid question but has anyone heard a read across whether this could be a different approach in the Taycan. Ie the Taycan has 93.4 kWh and useable 89.6%.
I wander if they are being less conservative based on experience and whether a future Taycan sw update will un leash more range or is this about different battery tech.

we shall see I guess.(happy with existing range but a little more not unhelpful)

There may be some updates that release more capacity but I believe the Macan is going to have newer more dense cells in around the same footprint along with more powerful and efficient motors.

There is also supposed to be improved thermal mgt as well - hence more efficiency improvement for that reason as well.

I think it’s more likely the new tech and benefits will be part of the Taycan facelift also due very soon, otherwise I cannot see much benefit in what that will bring.

I doubt they’ll bring that much across to the older Taycan’s (even if they could), as they’ll want to try and make the ‘25 Taycan as compelling as possible.
I hope I’m wrong, though ?

The single most influencing factor here will be simply the larger battery pack somewhere between 95kWh and 114kWh gross.

This is my latest theory on the basis that the top end Audi Q8 e-tron now offers 114kWh (106kWh usable) as standard and so reasonable to expect some 'sharing' of components within the VAG family.

Given performance vs weight vs consumption considerations I think the Macan will mirror the sibling e-tron variant.

Even though it’s unlikely that I would personally take advantage of this additional battery capacity, it would be a great technical flex on Porsche’s part to pull this off. It could also be a positive sign that could help with residual values as their EVs age.
