Strange Parts (YouTube channel by an ex-Google engineer, that has been hacking hardware for the last 10+ years) has done a sponsored video with Homor, to hack a phone (Samsung Trifold) with new Honor batteries. Lithium battery are limited by how much lithium can bind with the anode. A way to extend a lot the battery capacity (up to 10x in theory) is to use a Silicon anode.
The issue being: it expands with carge, the whole battery shape expands and push stuff around. The fix: add carbon. Competitor are at 16%, this battery goes up to 25%.

TLDR: a same shape battery can store 38% more capacity. He actually spent most of the video removing material from the phone body and hinges to put larger batteries, giving +71% capacity; but that's not relevant to us.

What's promising is, the +38% capacity, in already available phone batteries. This is not a lab research tech, this is something already commercialized in China. When this comes to VEs, that'll be a nice upgrade to all electric cars.

TLDR: lithium phone battery with +38% capacity already in production

Building/hacking the phone goes up to 32mn; results and explanation from 32:25 :

It's cool, but there's a reason samsung and apple don't use it.
It starts degrading in performance and capacity after very few charging cycles.

The tech will obviously advance, but it's not something that has much relevance for cars.
