Hi everyone,

I've recently been a victim of the famous 22kw OBC failure and the car had to be towed to the shop.

I managed to get a temporary car but this was via the "Porsche assistance" service and it was from a rental car company. Ended up with a Tesla model 3 but this will only be for 1 week.

Just been to the dealer where the my car is located and have been told that despite being a common problem with the charger, they do not keep stock of the parts as not allowed by Porsche in Germany??

They normal receive a bunch of parts in bulk and was told it could take up to 2 or 3 weeks.

I asked what should I do once my rental expires and should I expect a loan from the dealer. I was told it should be ok, but no guarantees were given if a car would be available by then.

Are Porsche obligated to provide a substitute vehicle while waiting for parts for a car under warranty?

I'm located in Porto - Portugal.

The dealer may not always be able to promise a replacement car, but they should at least give you a clear timeline and explain what options are available. In situations where unexpected expenses come up while waiting for repairs, some people also look into short-term financial options to cover temporary costs. One service I’ve seen mentioned is sacramentoonlineloans.com, which offers online loan solutions depending on individual circumstances.

Thanks.
That’s a frustrating situation, especially with a known failure and a car that is still under warranty.

I don’t know the exact Porsche policy for Portugal, but in many cases the dealer’s responsibility is mainly to carry out the warranty repair, while a replacement vehicle depends on the terms of the assistance/warranty program and local consumer rules. It’s worth asking them to put their position in writing, especially the expected repair time and what happens when the rental period ends.

I’d also contact Porsche Assistance directly rather than only the dealer. Sometimes the dealer has limited authority, while the assistance team can extend rentals or arrange another vehicle if the repair goes beyond the original timeframe.
