Porsche - Loan cars

Hi everyone,

I've recently been a victim of the famous 22kw OBC failure and the car had to be towed to the shop.

I managed to get a temporary car but this was via the "Porsche assistance" service and it was from a rental car company. Ended up with a Tesla model 3 but this will only be for 1 week.

Just been to the dealer where the my car is located and have been told that despite being a common problem with the charger, they do not keep stock of the parts as not allowed by Porsche in Germany??

They normal receive a bunch of parts in bulk and was told it could take up to 2 or 3 weeks.

I asked what should I do once my rental expires and should I expect a loan from the dealer. I was told it should be ok, but no guarantees were given if a car would be available by then.

Are Porsche obligated to provide a substitute vehicle while waiting for parts for a car under warranty?

i think each country's (or region's) policy is different. Here in the the US, the dealerships are owned by a franchise model (independently owned). There is no obligation by the dealership to provide a Porsche vehicle, even for warranty repairs as it is at a cost to them to punch a warranty on a new car.

That said, each franchise competes on warranty repairs (even though you don't pay for the repair, they are compensated by Porsche for their labor), and are incentivized to give you the best experience. So here in the US, we typically "shop" around our metro areas and find the dealership with the best rental availability. My most recent experience, I had to delay my repair by about 2 weeks so that I can be scheduled for a guaranteed rental. Also note, there is no guarantee to receive a certain vehicle type. Most rentals at US dealerships are Macans (cars they have trouble selling). I was lucky enough to request and have available a Cayenne.

Parts supply situation is daft. Porsche are as far away from being customer centric as it's possible to get.

Am I right in thinking from my experience.....

If you take it into a dealership - it's dealer dependant.

However, if you get it taken in under Porsche Assist - you get a loaner (Enterprise in the UK.....usually a cr@p car)?

That has generally been the case here in Ireland anyways. But any dealer supplied loaner is a good will gesture rather than some legal obligation. My dealer allowed me take a loaner Taycan on a 3,000km road trip to France once – which I thought was very decent of them. That for sure took some value off the car resale price.

yeah, as mentioned, you likely won't get a porsche unless you're a "preferred" customer.
Assist use enterprise and i think i got something lame like a jeep renegade. when i had to take it to porsche cambridge they gave me a audi A1 ! :-\

so yeah.

Well, sitting next to my car there were 4 other Taycans all waiting the same dreaded 22kw charger.

The Porsche service advisor told me that they have a total of 15 cars (All Porsche) for loan purposes but always with high demand.

They do not offer an alternative solution as going with a rental as they demand that the loans should always be a Porsche for branding image.

I think that branding image as gone out the door with the car park filled with Taycans waiting on spares.

In the UK, from my experience the Porsche loan cars are booked for approx 3 months. So if a minor problem like i had you can wait 3 months. Otherwise it will be Enterprise hire car. The enterprise car i had was not limited to 1 week. Total time to do the 22kw charger replacement was 2 wks. For info, the garage said i could have taken the enterprise hire car back to them, albeit with a full tank.

I've had my RWD 24MY Taycan at the dealer twice since I bought it 4 months ago, both for minor PCM updates; each time they lent me a Taycan Turbo. It's going in again in a weeks time for a kerbed wheel repair, and again a Taycan loaner is promised. From the messages on here I consider myself lucky. Plus, and I know many on here have turbo's and love them, so please don't take this personally, but after popping round to my car mates and giving them a launch experience, I can see no other use for all that performance. Especially when I't's coupled with a range of barely 250 miles compared with 350 miles in my RWD. Sorry, just my view.

whoa the difference in range is THAT MUCH? That's ridiculous?. there really should be a range mode that puts it into same power consumption as a standard taycan

I agree (on UK roads).
So few places you can test the potential for high power cars nowadays.
And the Taycan is no track car either.

I've got an i4 M50 now, same with that. Show people the party trick with launch control and spend the other 99.9999% of the time in Eco mode (still fast).

May differ in other countries.

You should give them a shout out for good service.

In the US, Porsche TSBs for most recalls include language indicating that PCNA will reimburse dealer for loaners while the recall remedy is being applied by the dealer.

Took my MY23 4S ST in to my local dealer on Wed to have the parking cameras fixed; I had to wait 3 weeks before it could be booked in. I requested something electric as a loaner and they supplied an electric Macan.

I was happy with that, but not at them calling me the next day to say they’d put a ticket in to Porsche central and nothing else, but expected me to go and pick it up the next day whilst they wait for a response! Needless to say, I’ve not done that and we are currently in ‘ongoing discussions’ via email. They claim there may be a software update ‘soon’ to fix it and want to find out about that first - sounds like the brush off to me. I’ve pointed out the bulletin and asked why they’ve not done that.

To be fair, I've always had a loaner with no issues (Panamera, J1.2 Taycan and 911GTS).

But I'd have no redress if they didn't provide one. Other than taking business elsewhere... (my dealer's very good so that would be silly).
