Porsche update, theft detected.

So I collected my car on Saturday and today Porsche GB rang me. I couldn't take the call as I was with a customer but have received an email offering £500 as compensation.

Not sure what anyone else thinks, but for a car costing nearly £1500 a month, pro rata thats £1175 I've paid for a car i couldn't have. £500 isn't really compensation in my eyes but happy to hear what others say?

Did you have a loan car? If no replacement then they should refund you 4 weeks of money that you have paid. If you had a loan car then that needs to be factored in.

They did. I had a clapped out Merc C200. I complained about it 3 times, not just for the fact it was in no way a comparison, but it stunk of petrol. The lady in Porsche actually mentioned it when i went in to collect my car. A couple of long drives left me with banging headaches but apparently I had to take a premium car so Porsche would pay Enterprise. Also worth noting I had to pay a £100 insurance premium on the hire car. Probably upsold but I felt I didn't have a choice to avoid a nasty suprise on returning the car.

Same problem here.

My car simply won't start and I have the same message on the app. Worse still, my car is communicating with the security company every hour raising the theft alarm. Vodafone has turned off the alerts many times but it just keeps happening.

The car must think it has been stolen so it must be the tracking software??? I suspect the car is shutting itself down as a security measure. If I am right, this is a high-risk feature in my opinion.

For those interested, I managed to start my car by disconnecting the auxiliary battery for a few seconds. This basically resets the car but the problem reoccurs when I turn it off again.

Going to take it to the garage tomorrow. I've also heard that there is no fix. Apparently, there has been a software update that affected all Porsche cars but the Taycan is now the only one with the problem.

Either way, I have no car to drive.

The problem is back again. 21/5/23

I forgot my fob yesterday and guess what, yes you guessed it, the car was immobilised.

The app is still saying theft detection so the problem will still exist. Some how, Porsche think the car is stolen??? They have obviously got a software issue because it’s not bloody stolen ?????

It’s on my drive !!!!!!!!!

I had to call out the AA. They disconnected the auxiliary battery to reset the car and it worked.

I called Vodafone and many porsche users are having the same issue.

What a joke. Looks like another painful trip to the Porsche dealership today.

I'll bet that if someone does try to nick it they will just drive off with it. It is only you that can't drive it when it thinks it is nicked.

1. update by Porsche GB / Voda which bricked certain cars in certain places. Not all and not everywhere.

2. driving without the fob - which if your cruel to be kind - is kinda the whole point of the exercise. So I’m not totally surprised the car is undriveable thereafter.

1 I have pity for but 2 is a bit of self inflicted harm.

My business partner forgets his fob all the time and his car doesn’t get immobilised so I am pretty sure this isn’t how it should work.

Porsche originally used the Vodafone Cobra tracker which never immobilised my car when I forgot my fob. I hear what you are saying but I think this is crazy.

Once the car is immobilised Vodafone can not reset it - It’s an AA job or you simply disconnect the auxiliary battery and it resets.

Interestingly, I called Vodafone the second I realised I had forgotten my fob and it still became immobilised ?

I have a Turbo on order and I have requested to use an alternative tracker but I suspect I won’t be able to without effecting the warranty.

Great car apart from this problem.

It's a different fob - a tracking fob - not the Porsche key fob. Its part of the integrated PVTS we have available to us here.

You carry it with you when you get in the car - its a form of secondary authentication - which lets the Porsche Vehicle Tracking Service know its 'you' and legit to drive. Otherwise it silently red flags the car to the tracking co and (eventually) to the fuzz. The car can then be remotely immobilised etc etc. etc.

It absolutely should not be kept in the car - or on the same key ring as the car fob. Defeats the purpose of the exercise - which is to eventually immobilise the car if you're not carrying it.

In other words someone takes the keys and jumps in....

This really highlights the old axiom regarding the inverse relationship between security and freedom - the more we tighten our security, the less free we are; and the more freedom we have the less secure we are. The trick is the balance.

And this right here seems like it's slipped over the edge of balanced -- Really?? I gotta carry TWO keys? One that tells the car 'ok to drive', and the other that tells the car it's ok for that key to say it's ok to drive.... Sigh. It's a bit of a twisted little future we're building, people.

You don't gotta have if you don't want it. Folk pay to have it.

For me either that or a stiffer insurance premium. I'll take the former and just remember to chuck the fob in my pocket. It's no biggie really.

Yeah. I get it, I'm just commenting on the macro view of it all. All else being equal wouldn't we all just want to leave things unlocked and not worry about people stealing things? There's far too much inequity for that, and so.. less freedom. It's a bummer, in a cosmic sense. But, practically, sure, no biggie really .

Better still have the option to use either or. One can only hope Porsche (and Vodafone) are listening ?
