With a Taycan on order and having previously been the victim of car theft (in particular a violent aggregated burglary) it just got me wondering whether electric cars are for any reason more secure than ICE cars?

Are they even instances of EVs being stolen?

Does the increased technology make them less of a target for instance?

Only recently we caught someone on cctv with a balaclava on scoping the kitchen from outside with a torch (presumably looking for the M2 or X2 keys), so any input whatsoever would be appreciated.

Had more than my fair share of issues with conventional performance cars and crime....so hoping for better with the Taycan!

Move home!
Can’t answer if they are really more secure but they have some much electronics that you can track them and do things like sound the horn/flash the lights from apps etc.

With the charging infrastructure as it is, keep the battery at 10% or less and noone’s stealing that baby! Unless of course they decide to put it on charge for a few hours while helping themselves to tea.

Make sure you have PVTS (Porsche Vehicle Tracking) with an active subscription and keep your PVTS fobs in a safe place. Without the fob (or key) a potential thief will not get very far. Test it yourself without the fob and see what happens (I did it by mistake and got stuck in the garage as the car shutdown.

Not perfect but harder.

Moving house? The car thieves travel to the areas where the better cars are. We live in a 'nice' place, but the crims come here.

Interesting about the Taycan standing up well to relay attack. Not wanting keyless entry for that very reason.

Very good point about the level of charge though. If there is no way of knowing how much charge is in an EV car, it's a gamble for a would be thief. Makes more sense to nick an ICE car I guess. If its low on fuel its quick and easy to fill up.

Also imagine the technology at the fast charging points identifies the car when being charged, which wouldnt be ideal for a thief.... Sitting waiting for it to charge.

Lastly. You can't transport a can of electricity about. ?

So all in all I would imagine them to be far less desirable to steal.
