SF to Palm Springs

We left Palm Springs today. First stop: PCA Cars and Coffee hosted by Porsche Palm Springs.

No Taycan owners attended and honestly an average showing of local cars, mostly new GT3s and 935s, 930s, 914s, and lots of Carrera Cabs.

The dealership had much more interesting cars for sale. 997 GT3 RS 4.0 was my favorite. They had 3 unsold 992 Sport Classics and 2 S/Ts!

For the forum here, they had a $226k PTS Taycan Turbo GT Weissach. Pastries and coffee was excellent as Indigo Auto Group always sources great local food.

Next stop: Glendale, CA for lunch. My favorite parking in Glendale is the city garage on N Orange Street. They have subsidized AC charging (11kw at $0.20), ample stalls, easy payment interface, and very importantly covered parking.

Unfortunately the car is only drawing 5.7 kw, which arriving at 35% requires me to likely stop in Santa Clarita area for a DCFC session to climb the mountain out of the LA area.

Odd, I guessed it was Dolomite, but being a tier 2 color for all other Taycans, and you would have to pay up for a GT, I assumed it was some other special silver color. It looks really good in person though, I feel like it's still a fairly rare color.

Blazing! This is one of the few "urban" chargers that doesn't appear to be balanced when all stalls are occupied.

I-5 stop: Harris Ranch

Planner said if we charge to 90% I can make it to SF with 10%. No wait this time, and I'm getting a dedicated cabinet as there are 3 cars for 6 stalls.

74.46 kws in 37 minutes. 200 kw average between 10% and 80%!

We elected to eat dinner at Harris Ranch as we had packed Porto's Bakery from Glendale. Pro tip, getting a table at the restaurant is difficult at the ranch and the BBQ has long lines, however if you packed a meal, they have a nice shaded courtyard behind the country store where you can enjoy your meal.

I learned that using the trip window (on the right side) is the most accurate and up to date monitor for open station count. It needs to be added as a stop.

Final update. Arrived home on Saturday night. Efficiency was 2.8 miles/kw to Palm Springs and 2.7 on the return.

After parking my car in the sun for 1 day, the other remaining days, I parked the car in a garage at the resort. Garage also had Tesla destination charging.
