Stock vs custom?

Am I alone in disliking anything that isn't stock on my Porsche's? I dislike:

• stick on carbon fibre
• anything that lowers the car
• wraps/not-stock colours
• aftermarket wheels
• third party mats
• ali-express key covers
• non-factory tinted windows – especially if illegally dark in EU
• non Porsche approved tyre variants
• anything non-factory with regarding lights/covers/tinting
• any illegal manipulations with number plates, including not attaching them where required (doesn't appear to be a European thing)
• aftermarket stereos or interior lighting
• dealership stickers on rear windows
• fuzzy dice

Obviously, each to their own – but am I an extremist ?

I would say purist, not extremist. My own preferences would be:

• stick on carbon fibre Absolutely not.
• anything that lowers the car No.
• wraps/not-stock colours Not my thing.
• aftermarket wheels Maybe, if they are really nice ones.
• third party mats No.
• ali-express key covers Why?
• non-factory tinted windows – especially if illegally dark in EU Uh-uh
• non Porsche approved tyre variants There was a time, but no.
• anything non-factory with regarding lights/covers/tinting Not for me.
• any illegal manipulations with number plates, including not attaching them where required (doesn't appear to be a European thing) Guilty as charged. No front plate to ruin the look.
• aftermarket stereos or interior lighting On the road, factory choices are fine. At home, go crazy with audio.
• dealership stickers on rear windows My car isn't a billboard.
• fuzzy dice Are you saying you don't like my fuzzy dice?

Certainly wouldn't consider any of those things on my Taycan, I think the car looks just fine the way Porsche intended. However, each to their own, the roads would be a boring place if we all wanted to keep our cars stock.

Modified number plates do annoy me, the smoked ones where you basically can't see the reg. They annoy me because I don't have the balls to do it myself and see if it works! Never seen one of those on a Porsche before though, and they don't look good, but then neither do our standard yellow ones either.

Not alone.

It's like taking a fine dram and making an Old Fashioned out of it.

It's like stir frying the finest lobster in sweet and sour sauce.

It's like adding a prefab extension to a listed building.

You just don't do it.

However, what's wrong with fuzzy dice?

I don't completely agree or disagree. I think custom can be done tastefully, however that is very subjective and to each their own. At one point in time I was thinking about aftermarket wheels, but changed my mind for now. I was also thinking about lowering the car but that was before I took delivery and realized it is low enough and looks amazing.

However, if I bought a 996 Turbo (which i would like to in the near future), i might go a little overboard with that

I somewhat disagree. While I agree things can go overboard and non-tasteful quickly, I'm one to prefer an OEM+ type of vehicle. I've got aftermarket 20's already in my garage for my incoming Taycan which will go with non-OEM 255/40/20 and 295/35/20 Pilot Sport AS4 tires, a significantly better all season than the factory options. May be lowered slightly, or just set in the lowest suspension setting at all times if I can get it to stick.

I think in many cases there are aftermarket mods that are better than the factory option. For example, weathertech mats are better than most factory rubber options. Tires as mentioned above. Wheels in many cases - the OEM Taycan 20" is quite a heavy wheel actually, my aftermarket one is just flow formed but still cuts weight out. Most of my cars also have a mild ride height adjustment as well (either up or down depending on vehicle)

Lowered with aftermarket forged Motegi wheels (same company and inspired design from the 458 GT3 race car wheels). Aftermarket Kline exhaust. Can't see it in this image but also added black vinyl between the rear tail-lights in the style of the OEM Carbon fiber option, and tinted tail light centers

Quite a few mods on my (now sold) Raptor, including aftermarket bumper side panels with light pods, wheels, upgraded springs that levelled the truck, big brake kit, fox bump stops, etc.

GX is a bit of a work in progress as its my wife's car, but has Rays wheels with mild AT upsized 32" tires, aftermarket prado style tail-lights and smoked rear reflectors. Replaced front turn signal bulbs with LEDs. May end up getting king shocks and a lift in front to level it, as well as a 3rd row delete with custom drawers installed

I always wondered, how exactly are these supposed to work? They do practically nothing against LiDAR speed measurement and if used for avoiding tolls there are hefty fines if you get caught.
