The dealer didn't mean base time, they were blowing smoke to get you to commit to buying the incoming vehicle. There are new base Taycans incoming or on-lot .....
Thank you for sharing these information with me. That was exactly what I want to learn. I went there for a second time to test drive more, with a different sales person, and was told the 4S wait time is 16 months now. Other trims are faster because 4S is "the national favorite".

The out of state purchase, I undertand for new cards you can just call to order, but need to have them ship it or go pick up. I guess you can trade in at the time of pick up to save some tax. But is it also a variable option if I want to buy a CPO car?

And do you think the Edmunds dealer value a good reference to set the expectation of the final price? I found our local dealers price higher on base, 4S models but lower on Turbo, TTS models.

AFIK in WA trade-ins work the same on CPO as on new cars, though I haven't bought a used car with a trade-in for a long time, so I cannot be certain of the current state of things. I'd check with a local dealer.

That said, you cannot trade in unless you get the car down to the dealer from whom you're buying, or somehow arrange a trade-through which I have never done across state lines. So unfortunately I lost the tax credit on my trade-in, though I also might have gotten a lower value for the trade-in if the dealer knows they have me (Tesla has been doing it all the time, offering ~10% less for a trade than another dealer, they won't let you do a trade-through, and they know that the sales tax credit in WA makes it wash for the buyer to trade to them for less but get tax credit vs. sell to another dealer for more but no tax credit). If you have to ship your trade-in to the dealer, that's ~$1.5K-$3K expense, so your tax credit better be worth it. In the end you just have to do the math and compare. I skipped the trade-in for my Porsche, as it wasn't worth it to ship it there, especially that the final trade value is not set until the dealer sees the car, and if they know you are committed because of shipping, they can lower the trade once you get there (they can easily find a stone chip or whatever to justify it).

I don't know how well their estimates hold up. Personally, I would search for available cars myself and the available listings information together with what Edmunds or other sources tell you. In the end, it depends on how good of a negotiator you are and how desperate the dealer it to sell the car. Remember that the longer they sit on it, the more it costs them - at today's interest rates that's at least $1K a month for a used Taycan on the lot.
