RWD with Steel & zero regrets not getting Air. No complaints on comfort and 10k miles in and have never scrapped the car. Had the Tesla suspension which raised/lowered before and never used it other than a party trick so knew I probably didn’t need it. Was concerned with high ride height but with Mission E’s no concern once receiving car.
Now, for those who have steep driveways or live in San Fran or something, totally get that it’s a necessity.
Glad that I have it every time I approach a steep driveway, which is often. Now I just have to get the knack of where to engage it so the car automatically raises up in time.
I have air, but have never tried the steel (but reports on here are it is good).
For me petsonally, there are enough places that I need the extra lift.
Different requirements if you live near a flat desert or mountain Alpine village (same story with surround parking / folding mirrors etc).
And the 19" wheels that have been painted partially black (on this forum) looked massively better than standard.
I have ordered a CT 4S so it has air suspension anyway.
From my vehicle dynamics experience I know that the air suspension with its computer controlled 3 different rates will be better. Whether enough for someone to consider the extra money is worth it is an individual decision.
Both steel and air suspension are great in the Taycan RWD. Porsche engineers are quite good when it comes to suspension! (I ordered mine with air suspension, then subsequently drove a steel version as a loaner while waiting for delivery.) That said, there are differences - the air suspension hides the car's weight a little better, manifested as less pitch under brakes and a little less roll around cornering.
After two weeks of ownership, my view is that the combination of RWD, air suspension, and rear axle steering is really quite special.
