I’m a BMW fan since the last 20years and have 4 different kinds of them. But, believe BMW missed the electrification journey. Anyhow, after contemplating for months on Tesla vs Taycan I decided to order the Taycan. Placed the order with North Houston Porsche dealer who came highly recommended by a close friend. This was March 23rd and started started tracking the Taycan through production and shipping. Decided to have it delivered to Atlanta PEC. Seems like everything was going great and the excitement was building. We planned a road trip with our kids from PEC- Atlanta to Houston and we’re ready to hop on the plane ( one way ticket) to Atlanta. Get a call from dealer with bad news 30mins before flight ( July 7th 2021) that the Taycan cannot be delivered due to the recall. Can’t understand why the dealer or PEC did not call a few weeks ago when this was known to them. Now PEC is blaming dealer and dealer is blaming PEC. Not a great first impression with Porsche.
We decided to have the new car delivery experience but I’m in 2 minds whether I should head back to BMW M3 ( which I was planning to get before I decided to go electric).
Hopefully when I receive the Taycan all this will be behind us. I know Porsche did the correct thing by not handing over the Taycan with a known issue. But, has left a bad taste now…☹

Sad to hear about the poor communication from your dealer. Mine was always prompt with information, changes, or issues.

As a former M3 owner and current Taycan owner, my advice is stay the course with the Taycan.

My first Porsche was a 991.2 and came from a F80 M3. That first Porsche buying experience was pretty horrid with poor post-sales communications, and after paying $130k for the car no one knew where it was on shipping, when it would be picked up from the dealer, nor when it would be delivered. The dealership went silent after I signed the paperwork and sent over the money, and I had to call PCNA and my bank to complain a few times.

What I've learned to accept is that cost of car has no bearing on dealer service/professionalism, reliability (talk to Ferrari or McLaren owners!), or after-sales relationships. We buy these cars because that's the price of entry and for what Porsche AG makes. Expecting anything else might not be realistic.

Some Porsche dealers seem to be better than others. Those that are owned and staffed by true driving enthusiasts seem to value the relationship with other enthusiasts including after-sales relationships (customer appreciation events), how's it going follow-ups, hey I learned this about the Taycan follow-ups, etc.

Again and again horrific stories from north American Porsche dealers. How are these people being able to stay alive with this insanely low level of support? Thankfully the car is the most important thing here and that always overdelivers.

They sell a lot of base Macans and Cayennes to soccer moms and soccer dads.
Most of their revenue is from SUV sales and selling packages and service for them. If they could stop selling 911s I bet they would.

Well right now the Taycan is a BIG seller, so let's HOPE they get their act together (I am NOT holding my breath).

It is a sad display of service and puts shame on hard working people at Porsche. I grew up just 10 miles away from Weissach and 20 miles from Zuffenhausen. Friends and people from my town still work there. Porsche NA is nowhere near of a proper representation of those people. Many of you have already done the right thing and complained. Hope it as some effect on them..

I had the same thing happen to me with the previous sw upgrade... My dealer went above and beyond by shipping a car for me to drive after LA PEC - so I did not pickup my new taycan at LA PEC- it was delivered to my house a week later after the upgrade... Personally I don't think its a huge deal- you don't drive your Taycan on the track- but you do miss out on the 'reveal' and subsequent pictures.. if thats important to you. Porsche also sent me a 1000.00 check to compensate me for my trouble (so I made 500.00 ;) )... I would push for a refund of the PEC charge...

Try buying a motorhome. It'll really make you appreciate how much better even the worst car dealer is.

Edit: That's not to excuse the poor experience here. It's just to note that spending even north of a million bucks isn't enough to guarantee good QC, dealers, service, etc.

They offered to pay for the flight back to Houston and rental car in Atlanta. But, due to the busy season and hardly any rental cars available we had to wait at the airport 2 hrs (with grumpy kids)to receive our rental. I just told my wife to Uber to hotel and I will get the rental and come. The dealer is sending me a loaner today and will delivery the Taycan when it arrives and the upgrade is performed.
All said, the experience at PEC- Atlanta was amazing and was able to drive an 4S on the track and burn a lot of rubber :). The lunch at the restaurant after the "supposed to be" new car delivery experience was amazing and made up for some of the disappointment.
Can't wait to sit in the car I ordered and put all this behind...

I understand electric and software is new for Porsche and as time goes by they might get it right. I guess for us (the early adopters) it's a pain you have to live with and hope at some point they will get their act together...

Sorry to hear that. Sounds like it worked out in the end. I did european delivery a couple times with BMW and it was such a fun experience. Too bad they've done away with it (and Porsche doesn't offer it on the Taycan).
