Transmission warning light

I have experienced this warning light at least a dozen times either when first turning the car on or when parking /turning the car off. When it’s on the car will not shift into gear. If I turn the car completely off and then back on the fault light goes off and the car drives fine. Dealership was unable to identify cause the first time I had them run a diagnostic and it’s now back again as they search for the cause. Has anyone else experienced this and identified the cause?

Aside from that, my Taycan completely broke the transmission back in December. Needed a replacement.
But back then, I could not drive further so your errors seems just intermittent

Thanks, reviewed the Reddit thread and it indicates a couple experienced same issue but not clear if cause was identified. Dealer tells me they need to send a diagnostic printout of my readings to Germany to see if a software update can be identified to fix the recurring issue. They said it may be a few weeks before manufacture responds so in the meantime driving a loaner

Well maybe you can guide this newbie. I went to search feature on site, typed in transmission failure and only my post comes up. What prompt are you using to get 40 hits?

Every time I’ve gotten that light I have failed to follow the proper procedure to top off the transmission fluid. Impossible to do unless it’s at the right temperature with the engine running. And the fill plug is right near the exhaust down pipes. I have two scars on my head to prove it. Messy job without a good fluid transfer system. Hope it’s that simple for you!

I think there may be some confusion here—just to clarify, the Taycan is a fully electric vehicle, so it doesn’t have a traditional engine or exhaust pipes like an ICE (internal combustion engine) car. The procedure you mentioned about topping off transmission fluid while the engine is running and working near exhaust downpipes sounds like something for a gas-powered Porsche, not the Taycan.
The Taycan does have a two-speed gearbox, but there are no exhaust pipes, and the electric motors are completely different from an ICE setup. If anyone has experienced this exact transmission failure warning on a Taycan and knows what the likely causes or fixes are, I’d definitely appreciate insight!
For now, It is at the dealer and their techs are a few days into trying to diagnose the issue. This is the second time going to dealer for same issue. I have looked at other posts about this warning light and none seem to identify same issue with a fix. If the dealer figures it out eventually I will post for others that may experience same issue.

Its been like searching for the Holy Grail so far this thread......

But at least you now know not to scar yourself for life, burning your head on your 2 Taycan exhaust pipes.

After many weeks in the dealership I have received word they are replacing the motor. I still have no details as to why but it’s related to the transmission failure warning light. It will be a couple more weeks before it’s ready for me to pick it up
