Weird noise while charging!

I just went into my garage, where I had my 2020 Turbo on the charger. There was a pretty loud "chugga-chugga" noise coming from the car. I disconnected the charging plug and plugged it back in, and the noise went away. Anyone know what that was? I've never seen that before. If it happens again, I'll record it.

Heat pump?

Would the heat pump only make that noise while charging? I don’t know these things. It’s still doing it, here is the sound:

Ok, I’ll call the dealer. But to be clear, the problem is repeatable. I plug in the charging cable, wait a bit, and the noise starts. I unplug the charging cable, and the noise stops immediately. This is all with the car off. And no offense intended, but you know what you’re talking about? A radiator in an electric car? I’m pretty clueless about cars, but if you’re right you just taught me something.

The high voltage battery requires both heating (prior to optimal charging), and cooling (to prevent overheating during normal operation & charging). This requires heat pumps that work with both coolant mixtures and sometimes oil. This article is helpful in understanding the Taycan cooling process, and this video describes the cooling system (along with a lot of other Taycan components - so you might have to scroll around at bit).

It sounds to me like one of the cooling pumps/fans is misbehaving. Once in my Taycan I picked up some rocks through the front air baffles and the fan made quite a bit of noise until those rocks were removed. It is also possible that one of the baffles itself is opening/closing quickly due to a control issue.

Definitely time to take the car in for service.
