Market commentary: it is interesting to observe how few 'private sale' vehicles exist any longer. Barely any out there these days. I guess we all prefer 'outsourcing' our sale/trade process to the experts.

I just sold my 997.1 C4S privately. Easy process, lots of interest, got a very strong price (2K more than I paid 2 years ago), etc.

We recently sold a 2016 Macan Turbo privately for 30% over dealer trade-in offer, which ended up about 15% more than similar private examples for sale. Ours was probably the best condition with lots of extras that we used ourselves and could have sold them piece by piece but decided to make new buyers happy and gave it all to them.

Where where we sit today:
- the 2020 negotiated down to 67.5k
- waiting to see if the 2021 has any price flexibility (currently at 70k). Have also asked my local dealer for price to extend warranty
- found another one: 2021, equipped in between the two above (has both full leather and PSCB), less exciting colors but CPO for 72k

Once you get into six digit priced cars, it can be a lot of hassle and you have to make up any sales tax credit you are losing when not trading in (yes, dealer associations knew what they were doing when they lobbied for those - if you really want to see crafty legislation funneling car sales to dealers, check out MA state). People wanting to just test drive (some non-serious buyers, other serious, but what if they damage the car?), others wanting to trade-in their car, I even had one guy try to pay with all cash (when I suggested we meet at the bank so he can buy a cashiers check with the cash, he backed out). Then there is the possibility of fraud (yes, certified checks can be faked too). I've sold privately when it made sense but for higher end cars paid a local dealer to handle the entire transaction for me - it allowed the buyer to trade their car in and get their sales tax credit, payoff previous financing, secure financing for my car they were buying, etc. The way it worked, I found a buyer, I took the buyer to the dealer, left my car, a day or two later the dealer cut me a check for the amount I agreed for with the buyer, minus the dealer fee (last time it was $1,200 on $80K car IIRC). I think the dealer also pitched some third party warranties or whatever services to the buyer, but that was between the dealer and the buyer, I have no problem with the buyer getting undercoating or laser engraved anti-theft serial numbers or any other products.

Bottom line for me, with over 10% sales tax in my state, I need to be able to get well over 10% above the trade-in value in order to make it worth it for me. My time has value for me, I am not going to spend many hours of my time to net a $1,000 in profit. End result is I ended up trading most of my cars, sometimes a "trade-through" which meant I found a dealer willing to buy my car at a higher price than the dealer who was selling me one, but they facilitated the transaction by trading in my car at that price and immediately selling it to the dealer I found.

WELL--- deal is done. Have purchased the 2020 4S. Jet Black with Black/Bordeaux full leather, PP, ACC, heated rear seats and steering wheel, 21" Exclusive Design wheels, and a few other minor options...and it was a late sale/late MY 2020 so has 18 months left of warranty.

MSRP $135,xxx.....paid a few dollars less than half MSRP.

Very happy with the choice and the deal.

Thank you all for your input....now you will have to be annoyed by my charging installation and operation questions!

Congrats! We'll all be here to help you on the next steps. Be aware the FoD options give you 90 day trial, too -- though I still think PID Is a waste and ALK is all you need. Welcome aboard!
