The EV portion of the Build Back Better bill was intended to expand EV tax credits - more money to more people - as well as reward EV purchases for certain US manufactured EVs. One provision of the EV section terminated the existing tax credit (which includes Taycan purchases).

The entire EV section had a single effective date. The EV section increases govt outflows (we call that costs). I believe the proponents of the bill are focused on "doing more good things for more people", thus making an effective date as early as possible.

Impact of retroactive date on relatively few "rich" people who bought high dollar value cars (particularly imported cars) is likely to be negligible consideration for legislators.

--yet another purported internet expert
I agree. To get the bill to pass though, I think they will need to balance 2 main things:
  1. The "doing more good things for more people" while reducing unnecessary spending
  2. And, the primary goal which is to increase EV adoption by getting the most "EV conversions" for every $1 of spend
So as I think about it, it has so much to do with getting all Dems (really two key Dems) to vote for it by limiting spend waste, and being smart about how to implement, and of course, not helping high-earners which I'm sure most of us here are...

I have to say though, if the goal is to remove "dirty combustion" engines off the road and accelerate away from the old (ICE) and into the new (EV), there should be an incentive to persuade all, and not just some, to choose an EV over an ICE. The credit isn't a % of MSRP, it's a fixed dollar number.. Anyways this is a whole other debate that I don't want to start today...

Good morning all! Happy New Year!

I scrolled through recent posts here and I’m obviously succumbing to my ADD, sooo can someone respond to me like I’m a fifth grader? : )

We’re taking delivery March 31st/April 1st….will we or will we not be eligible for the $7500 tax credit for Calendar Year 2022?

Thanks in advance!

Brief answer: Yes you will be eligible for $7500 tax credit under existing law.

If legislation (similar to EV tax credit portion of Build Back Better) which terminates/modifies the existing EV tax credit law should be enacted in the future and which becomes effective during 2022, then 2022 Taycan buyers might not be eligible.

For a fifth grader: Yes, unless law is changed in 2022, then maybe yes, maybe not.

Yes you will
No you won’t
No one knows what will happen, if anything, until something is decided in Congress. I can’t imagine the $7500, while important, will be a deciding factor for most people in purchasing a Taycan.

You are correct….it had little, if any, impact on our purchasing decision, but I’ll take $7500 everyday that ends in Y.

Yes indeed, if anyone has a car held up at the SD port and you find out it's moved to the transport stage, please do notify us here. Obviously we'll do the same. I have a very attentive SA but would just like to be doubly sure we're all still stuck in this together... heh.
Any update from anyone on the Asteria Leader? TYD still says Port Processing and 1/14 delivery. Originally I just figured TYD was behind. Now I’m starting to wonder. I only noticed one car reaching their Dealer.

Still no news here, and my TYD shows the same as yours. My dealer doesn't know anything either.

Ditto here. The boat is long gone, but the cars aren't moving from what I see here. No word from my SA and TYD still shows "port processing."

When I spoke to my SA last week he said "it looks like its being held up for a tire pressure monitor." If that were true I could have delivered one myself (discount tire sells them for Porsche - I bought them there for my 911). I never had such a difficult time to spend $100K+

As to the person who said something like "I don't think $7500 tax credit would make a difference for buyer of this car," I'd respectfully disagree. Yes I would buy the Taycan eventually but I justified the purchase earlier than I would have bought it. Fact is I never go anywhere anymore and have an electric motorcycle that I use for 90% of my errands.

I strongly agree with everything you said here! Perhaps a good reason that we can afford such a car, is because we make good financial decisions, like getting $7500 for a car that we planned to buy anyway. It would not make financial sense to leave that on the table or not do everything possible (within good reason) to take advantage of $7500.

Hmmm, what's the bigger problem, having no car but $100K in the bank, or having the car in the garage but no place to go?

LOL it depends. If one believes that money in the bank is better than any experience, then it’s the money.

If one believes that money is meant for responsible utility, to live, capture experiences, and responsibly enjoy what you’ve toiled for, then it would be a crying shame to have the car with nowhere to go.

Per my SA this morning, "I have no idea why the car is being held up."

Very reassuring.

A friend I met on this site decided to go with an Audi, he said they are offering the $7500 tax credit today on leasing deals.

At this point the Asteria Leader's cars have been sitting at the port for over a week. While I'm sure the New Years holiday is partially to blame, it's not very helpful that the only intel we have at this point are very vague and unspecific reasons for the delay.

I don't have a solution or real point to this, just posting to vent somewhere... lol.

There is a list elsewhere on this site of common missing parts, many related to the chip shortage. My understanding is rather than allow cars that are 98+% ready to sit around the manufacturer's lot, they ship them out to the various ports, then use some air carrier like DHL to send the missing parts as they become available. I know that info is not much better than what we have, but it explains the delay.
