I had an opportunity to get an earlier (by at least 3 months) build with a more distant dealer, but concluded that it was more important to have the convenience of dealing with my (very) local dealer should I have any issues with the vehicle (it wasn't enough to hear that any dealer will look after any customer regardless of where they bought their car). When I put down my deposit in October, the CT4S was the variant most in demand with delivery estimated to be up to 12 months out.
That is how I feel at the moment. I found a few allocations that would be available immediately. That being said, I'd have to pay for shipping... The other thing that plays into this decision is the switch to the 2023 MY. Most available allocations are May/June builds, so it may make sense to just sit tight and wait for 2023 at this point...

When I had a test drive and discussed ordering a CT 4S on a Friday the dealership told me all their slots were taken until November '21. I thought about it over the weekend (it is bigger and heavier than I like) then placed an order on the Monday, they then said it will be next year, hopefully the first half. I am still hoping!

I understand that thought process completely.
I actually went with a far dealer because I had good experience with them from a previous car bought from them 2nd hand. Not pushy, helpful and nothing like my local (Reading) dealer. When I want service / assistance I will probably go with next nearest (Silverstone) who are part of the same group that I bought it from anyway.

I contacted a few dealerships but decided to go with my local dealer after the SA told me he could match the allocation date stated by another dealership and, of course, because it was my local dealer. Turned out my allocation had always been 3 months later than had been promised!

Deposit paid June 21.
Build locked November 21.
Build start February 22.

Deposit made in June 2021
Order submitted with commission number in July
Build started October
Delivered early December to Northern California

TrackYourDream was fairly accurate throughout and the vehicle actually arrived a little earlier than the website estimated.

I would suggest shopping around. I don’t think I’d pay over MSRP for a Taycan, especially in the numbers they are producing. Of course that’s dependent on where you are. Dealers around me were asking for MSRP for an allocation back then, thoughI hear some are asking for additional markup. I do know that many are still offering at MSRP.

Back in June, I ordered through a dealer/broker (to be fulfilled by a local Porsche dealer) and it was for 3% off MSRP.

I spoke with my dealer today, who only has a 'waitlist'. He has no way of knowing when they'd get an allocation and he advised me to purchase out of state to take advantage of the tax credit (while it exists). Following his advise...

I live in California (LA) and trying to buy a Taycan in this state is not impossible, but rather a financially irresponsible decision. Every dealer I contacted are doing 10-30K mark-ups on a base RWD Taycan with no legitimate reason other than "due to market demand." I asked if the mark up applied to a custom order. They said yes and that I would need to pay a 15k non refundable deposit and a 10k waitlist fee.

Long story short, I took my business to an out of state dealer. They gladly accepted my custom build, no BS, 5% below MSRP, and inclusive of the $500 option to have the Los Angeles Porsche Delivery Experience (aka shipping to me for the cheapest rate possible). The car will be here on July.

I don't play games with dealerships when I am actively trying to give them my business. If you can pull off an out of state purchase and take advantage of the PEC Delivery (LA or Atlanta), that is the best way to get your hands on a Taycan without throwing money away.

Killer deal, congrats!

Curious - how many dealers did you check with in SoCal and did you check NorCal dealers?

The situation is California seems bad. My out of state dealer sold his last taycan CT to a person in Cali. I’m going with the out of state option. I was surprised how easy it was to find three allocations, took me less than an hour..

Thank you! I called all the SoCal Dealers and four in NorCal. The same crap from all of them, but I noticed some SoCal ones were being extra greedy.

I took some revenge though. Prior to confirming my order, I went to the dealer that was marking up the most and test drove the spec I wanted (RWD Taycan) that had half of the options I wanted. I played the fool and played their game in order to actually test drive. After the drive, I knew I didn't need some options and told the dealer "nah, I'm good, I don't want to pay 120k for an 89k car with options." The look on their faces was worth it.

Yea, its bad out here! California dealers are notorious for dealer markups. I get some mark ups on dealer ordered cars, but never in my life have I been told I would need to do it for a custom order. It's crazy out here, but unfortunately there are individuals that will gladly pay these mark ups.

Waiting since June '21, still no allocation. Since then talked to a few dealers, spanning coast to coast, got on some waiting lists (some refundable deposits, they all know whoever gets me one first gets the sale). Evidently Porsche is just not making any CT Turbos for the USA. Porsche taking a page from Elon perhaps, take deposits ("reservations" in Tesla lingo) without any clue when a car could be available, then convert it into an actual order some day in the future, not even necessarily in the order people placed deposits. Tesla deliveries are more dictated by delivery location rather than who had an earlier reservation. If you ever order a Tesla, make a reservation for delivery the closest to the factory as they will fill those orders first. Porsche seems similar, plus they seem to prioritize some models over others. In my case some dealers I talked to got ST GTS allocations before getting a single CT Turbo allocation (ever), even though ST GTS came out over a year later. So, it seems it's a total crapshoot. I started looking for an alternative while keeping deposits in place in case Porsche drops an allocation for me to buy a Taycan before I can buy something else.
