*SOLVED* - locking your doors WIHTOUT keyfob - using your hand...

According to the internets and this forum - seems like everyone is having issues with something these Taycans are SUPPOSED to do easily - lock the doors after you get out without the keyfob...

Story (from Porsche) goes - if you get out of your car - and touch the handle (with the keyfob on your personage) the doors are supposed to lock.

and - if you're lucky - it happens 1/4 of the time. I've read posts about : "hold it in your left pocket and use your right hand to touch the door handle..." or "DO the Karate Kid Crane Stance and then use your middle finger to.."

ANyway - i accidentally stumbled on something that works on my car - on all 4 doors, 100% of the time, AND on two cars at the dealer that i got to mess around with

it's NOT my job to say why this works - but i have my guesses. Just try it and let everyone know?

do what you've done before - just use the backside of your hand - specifically the back side of your fingers. I know it's dumb. Maybe my big manly calloused hands aren't as conductive on the normal side you touch things with. Again, no idea - but it works

i do my finger like this: (see image)

and use the back of my finger - the second section. And then hit the little indention on any of the doors and it locks like it's supposed to when you do a normal human touch to that area

Yes, it's silly and int he grand scheme of things - no big deal. But yet, for some reason it is. I NEVER would have thought of posting this - except i've literally seen over a dozen people complain about how they can't get it all the time.

PS - if it doesn't work for you - you're probably a descendant of bastardized alien race who comingled and bred with humans. And it'll never work for you

Since day one has worked for me 95% of the time with the fingertip. No idea where the statistic is from that this works for nobody.

Me too! In fact, I didn't even know that my car had this feature until I started reading about it on this Forum several months ago. So..............I went into the garage and tried it out and voila it worked and the car locked...................and works every time for me. Yes, there are times when I 'miss' the exact touch spot and I have to try again, but it never fails to work. Temperamental sometimes, but 100% consistent for me. I cannot remember the last time that I either locked or unlocked my doors with the fob.

last time i was at the dealer - i asked why they didn't tell people who bought them about locking them this way (after reading it on the forum) and he said because it works so infrequently they don't want to tell people it's supposed to work and then have it not work.

glad some of you have it working right... you're probably some of the lucky people who have your brakes work 100% of the time too, eh? I won't get started on that one again...

cool - i HOPE i was wrong and this isn't as much of an issue as some of the posts made it seem. as to my car - the "normal" way of locking by touching with fingertip works about half the time when i'm by myself (after tryign 4-5 times). 0% of the time when i'm trying to show off the feature

I just put and hold my thumb over the little groove for a second or two (in a horizontal position, covering as much of the groove as possible)... works pretty much every time for me. So maybe try that?

Fortunately, I don't have that problem. Because I have a Cross Turismo, I have to lock with the key - to avoid a false alarm. Lucky me!!!

I do NOT understand why this is difficult for anyone.

Put your finger on the dent in the door handle.
Hold it there until it chirps.

Done. Works 100% of the time.

Thanks for posting this! I like many others get the "touch to lock" function to work a 90% of the time, but when it doesn't work it drives me a bit nuts and I feel like a fool standing there trying different fingers, etc.

Recently when the initial touch doesn't seem to work, I've taken to holding my finger on the indentation and giving the car a second or two before I try something else. Sometimes the "touch and hold"' approach works. If nothing is working I either move to a back door and try that or take out my key (old style).

I definitely plan to try the back of finger (the middle one) the next time the problem happens

Thanks for this tip, I've been having trouble with mine too but I suspect because the car doesn't think the key is right next to the car (it's quite inconsistent in detecting that). But would love for it to be a simple fix like this.

The last time I locked my CT with the touch of a finger I got a call pleading with me to do something about the alarm. I was 200 miles away and deactivated the alarm by unlocking the car with the iPhone app. Ever since then it's been two taps on the key fob to lock the car.
