Are you serious? That's EXACTLY what premium manufacturers do!

There is a very good reason you buy a 1 Series BMW and it sometimes has rattles yet you buy a 7 Series and it doesn't; additional time and effort is spent to ensure the 'premium product' is delivered as such. In fact Porsche has even prioritised parts (ie. missing elements due to chip shortage) to higher spec models. Other manufacturers stopped producing lower end models in favour of higher versions. It's where they have higher margins and therefore greater profit.
…what? What did I just read?

Taycan Turbo S is to Taycan RWD as
BMW 7 series is to BMW 1 series?

Is that what you said?

?

I’ll be moving on now.

No - I misunderstood your point... I thought you meant a basic low-end car (any brand) vs a Taycan.

Base model Taycan vs Turbo S 'should' make no difference, although it does (since supply chain has been prioritised). And I purely added the model into my original post because normally someone ends up asking for more detail.

Interesting view on my ‘complaints’ people ?

This car cost £150k ($200k) so it should be right. This isn’t some thrown together truck or economy level saloon (sedan). It’s the pinnacle of modern technology from one of the greatest manufacturing groups in the world.

I don’t disagree with the new-tech element resulting in glitches but it’s a still poor form; if that happened in my business (healthcare products) people would die and I’ll tell you, we spend a whole lot less on R&D and most products cost less in the end. Not one of them has glitches. It’s all about attention to detail.

I think it’s about what we’re prepared to accept. If you’re used to a hard plastic dash of the attempts of refinement in truck or similar then anything beyond that is spectacular. If you’ve lived in multiple German build cars that just perform - and when they go wrong it’s mechanical because they’re performance cars (which is just fine by me), then expectations are higher.

And yes, the Taycan drives amazingly; it’s a Porsche. But it’s not at GT3 RS, a GT3 or even a GT4 model which will grind and squeak -
It’s a full blown luxury car as well as a ‘sports’ car.

Don’t get me wrong, I still really do like and appreciate the car and I’m actually not complaining. I’m just discussing niggles because that’s what a forum is for. If I keep the car I’m more than happy to work through the issues; they just shouldn’t be there in the first place.

And no, I don’t regret my post. I didn’t have these quality issues with my M5 so I don’t expect them with this.
I tottaly agree with you.

I'm waiting for a GTS and for 150k Euros and more than 6 months for delivery, I expect (and demand) a flawless car in every aspect. So it's all a question of expectations. I can expect a Renault zoe or a Tesla 3 to have these type of issues but not on 150K plus car.

We pay premium prices, so we should expect premium services and premium products. So your are absolutely right to be unpleased with "minor" issues even if they are "minor" compared with all astonishing attributes of the overall.

I've seen hundreds of posts regarding an alarm issue - "What's the big deal if the alarm goes on randomly when is such an amazing car?" ....

(Disclosure for some: just in case you've read the prior sentence and din't get it - I'm being sarcastic)

Anyway, thank you MarkG_M5 for your post and for having the time to share your experience with me (and many others), wanting to know all the details and experiences about this particular model (the real purpose of these forums).

Take care!

Thank you @Hugo - I was beginning to think I was going crazy :)

I have however emailed my dealer to enquire about their 718 Cayman GTS demonstrator!

Having sold my F90 M5 to get into a Taycan 4S, I find it particularly comical that you hold that up as the example of what a great car should be. While a really good car in many ways, the steering was horrible, not just the total lack of feel but its ridiculous non linearity, and it had possibly the worst driver’s seat imaginable. The PCM was fantastic though…

If the M5 is a better overall package in your eyes than a Taycan Turbo, you really are in the wrong car, as what you value and what the car offers are not aligned.

That's not what I said at all though is it.

I merely mentioned that the M5 iDrive worked well and that I didn't experience the minor niggling quality issues. The iDrive didn't glitch or c**p out like the PCM 6 does and to those saying the PCM is new - it's not, it's generation 6 as the name suggests. Interestingly colleagues with the eTron (same underlying tech) have similar issues.

I only had the M5 18 months and found it an all-round OK car but nothing special beyond the engine. The engine was the only thing that went wrong on mine too (well one of the cooling systems leaking and took out the injector loom). This happens, just like issues with the F80 killing diffs and it's part of owning a high performance car.

Your dealership is mid-Sussex isn’t it? Black with gold rims? If so, that’s the car they loaned me while I was waiting for my taycan to arrive. Totally loved driving it, so much so the taycan was a bit of a disappointment when it finally arrived!

This is another thread that proves that a lot of Taycan owners are first time Porsche owners and really aren’t looking for what Porsche offers. Porsche, while generally having decent reliability, doesn’t sell perfect cars. They sell exceptional drivers cars with some rough edges. Always have and always will. If you want a luxury car with all the comfort and technology aspects refined to perfection, you should look elsewhere. Heck if you just want a car that’s easy to get in and out of on a daily basis, you should look elsewhere.

You are absolutely right.

Please see my post: Is the Taycan a Lemon.

"This isn’t some thrown together truck or economy level saloon (sedan). "

Me thiketh Porsche rushed into this. Their electronics is iffy...and prolly not Porsche but from a subcontractor. Getting wireless charger right (for example) is not the highest of technology, but Porsche subcontractor screwed up on even this.

"It’s the pinnacle of modern technology from one of the greatest manufacturing groups in the world."
It is. And is in poor form.
Do you even know what Porsche’s core competency is? Do you know it’s history and overarching philosophy?

If you did, you wouldn’t be surprised by wonky software or crappy wireless charging capabilities. You can complain all you want, but you shouldn’t be surprised. Porsche doesn’t command six figure prices based on its nav system, so you shouldn’t expect they spend as much time and effort on it as they do other aspects of the car.

Simple case of expectations and reality being divergent.

Im glad im not the only one that has a glitchy screen. Drives me nuts and the updates have been worthless. Love the car but disappointed in the lack of support for the software. Let us know if you get a solution.

I was told that Porsche had to rush out an electric vehicle; and it didn’t go through all the usual due diligence before being released.

so far though, for me at least, software issues and an alarm sensor - both addressable.

I'm not really disappointed with the Taycan, I think it's great. It's just that the Cayman was soooo good to drive. I'm seriously considering ordering one although it'll probably take about 18 months to arrive with the current production issues.

If you do take it, you're going to love it
