Does anyone know if the 0-60 acceleration changes dramatically when switching between modes? Does sport plus give the fastest acceleration, or are the modes mostly about ride height and stiffness?

In normal mode, it focuses on more range. In sport plus mode, it does not care about the range, increasing the battery temperature, making it ready for the highest performance.

I believe there are also differences in the transmission. I recall reading that Normal mode always starts in second gear for greater efficiency but Sport and Sport Plus modes start in first gear, which is just used for the initial acceleration and maximizes torque before switching to second.

Got it, so it sounds like the use of the transmission and power would limit acceleration, but sport would use it to the full extent? So does that make the difference between sport and sport plus more about height, stiffness and traction control instead of acceleration?

But, if you want the maximum acceleration, you should use the launch control in conjunction with the Sport+ mode.

I thought only range started in second gear? But I did think that normal changed to second gear sooner than sport or sport+ - I thought I had read that somewhere. Maybe I should look in the good to know app more :)

I remember reading something along the lines of in Normal mode the power given to the wheels makes them rotate around 8 times per second. In Sport mode that increases to 14 times per second. So there is a significant power increase when selecting Sport mode over Normal mode.

Those are both fixed speeds. I think you’re remembering something incorrectly.

I may have skimmed some details as it’s been a while since I read it but basically it’s as I mentioned:

”The two-speed transmission is based on three shafts. In addition to the two spur gear stages, which technically represent the ratio of the second gear, a shiftable planetary gear set is also used, which enables a corresponding reduction for the very short first gear. Roughly 15 revolutions of the motor represent one revolution of the wheel. This results in a very high wheel torque of almost 12,000 Nm, which allows breathtaking acceleration from a standing start.

First gear is mainly used in Sport or Sport Plus driving modes. Launch Control is also available in these modes. The transmission remains in first gear for a relatively long time, then shifts into second gear with a shift overboost.

Second gear has a ratio of around 8:1 like the transmission on the front axle. Eight revolutions of the electric motor thus represent one revolution of the wheel. This enables a top speed of 260 km/h typical of a sports car and acceleration reserves at high speeds (Taycan Turbo: Electricity consumption combined 28.0 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions combined 0 g/km, Taycan Turbo S: Electricity consumption combined 28.5 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions combined 0 g/km (all as of 08/2020)). The rear axle has a controllable differential lock.”

The above basically states in sport mode it will accelerate in first gear where approx 15 revolutions of the motor equate to one revolution of the wheel. In normal mode it uses second gear which is 8 revolutions of the motor to one revolution of the wheel.

It’s not. What’s mentioned in the article you quoted is the ratio. What you me mentioned previously was a speed.

Sport+ gives you a nice kick when it switches speeds at around 75-80 mph, other modes it's very mild.

yes in normal mode it start on second gear however if you floor it at about 20-30 m/h it downshift to first and the acceleration is better but a bit rough during the gear shift.

Mine seems to consistently do it exactly at 78 mph.
