...They stated i would void warranty if installation done incorrectly.....
void what warranty, the camera warranty? You could buy 4 of them for 7 hours of labor!

Am I to understand the Porsche software is ready for a rear camera, but installing this OEM camera only gives you front camera capability?
I've been looking at a few different dash cams for when my car arrives. The Porsche cam has a parking mode which is a plus, but it is indeed only front-facing. Supposedly one of the main advantages, in addition to park mode, is that the Taycan is "pre-wired" for the camera. Considering the one poster who had to pay for 6 hours of labor to install I'm not sure that is an important "advantage".

The Dash Cam thread has some interesting comments. I've been looking at the FitCam X and my SA had a recommendation for a good installer. The dealer won't install non-OEM accessories.

Fitcam X for Taycan (front and rear) Taycan version doesn't have a parking monitor.

I am glad you are happy with the Porsche cam but for me that is very intrusive. Here is my BlackVue 4K cam, barely visible from the driver seat. The rear cam is not 4K but it's perfectly hidden and not visible at all. Total install took just under 3 hours. All the wires are tucked into the interior trim and it is hardwired to the fusebox so it runs 24/7.

This is the exact camera/setup I went for too, except I used an OBD2 adapter to power it (also always on) from the port in the driver footwell. Works great for parking mode. Can't see it from driver's seat. Haven't had any 12v issues, car keeps it topped up from the HV battery (since the 12V fixes last year). I have a hotspot in my car too (plugged into the rear 12V outlet) so when that is charged I can access the camera via BlackVue Cloud.

I'm considering this setup also. To be clear you have it enabled for parking mode and are not using the Blackvue battery for parking mode. With the updates to the 12v battery in the Taycan, the main car battery will keep the 12v battery charged up so there is little/no chance of draining the 12v battery?

My install: V1Gen2 on the left of the mirror (hardwired with mirror tap powers on with the car), Blackvue 900x 2Ch on the passenger side and rear(cannot see it in the back, but above the rear passenger headrest) hardwired to the fuse box in the passenger footwell. Auto switches to parking mode when the car shuts down. My Tint strip in the front hide everything, but I moved the camera lens below the line as it impacted the quality. Still almost invisible.

The Blackvue 900 has the hardwire cable that has built in voltage monitoring so it will shut off if your 12v drops below a certain level. The other models require a separate module for this to work.

Little chance of draining the 12v battery. Like others mentioned, the camera will detect the voltage and if it drops too low it will shut off.

Parking mode on the blackvue has a much higher sensitivity for the sound and G force detector so any light bump or knock will trigger the camera to save the recording. In driving mode, the thresholds are a little higher as not to record every speedbump.

There really is nothing better than the blackvue 2 camera set up in terms of look, money, integration and app. If you have WiFi in your garage, you can even set it up so as soon as camera connects to WiFi, the recorded clips are automatically downloaded to cloud.

Thanks, good to know. I do have WiFi in my garage so I'll probably order one for my Taycan.

You can adjust the parking sensors. I was getting way to many alerts on my phone and dialed them down and now it is just a handful. Rain sets them off too.

This sounds like the most practical option. Just to check you are powering both the front and rear cameras from the OBD2 port via an adapter? What does this look like when installed? Is there a risk of it being knocked or getting in the way? Are the wires well hidden?

I’d like to get the blackvue setup and find a simple way to power it, plus need to be able too record whilst parked and access the cameras remotely ideally.

Thanks in advance and so cool having forums like this to access great advice and content

I'm having it installed on the 14th of this month by a shop I've used in the past. I've already had them install the BlackVue DR900X-2CH Plus in my wife's Acura. It is hardwired into the fuse box. It will record parking events (something hits the car, window broken, etc) and you can set the sensitivity.

There are three wires for the hardwire installation: GND, ACC, and BATT. The ACC goes to a fuse that is only powered when the car is on, and the BATT wire goes to a fuse that always has power. The unit monitors the battery level and will shut off if the voltage drops too low when in parking mode. Alternatively, you can buy a battery to power the unit in parking mode.

I'll post some pictures in this thread once it is installed.
