How essential/useful is the My Porsche app for the Taycan? Do I need it to use EA charging stations, or can I just plug and charge like I do with my Tesla?

I have patiently tried to use it on my 2020 911, but it’s been hit and miss since I’ve downloaded it. Fortunately, all I consistently get are range and tire pressure with some occasional trip data, so driving the car isn’t affected. I assume spotty cell service where we live in rural NM could be part of the problem, I usually just get the spinning wheel, followed by unable to connect with a secure server.

If the app is an essential element for cross country travel in the Taycan, I’ll pass on my order. Appreciate any comments.

You don’t need the app. Plug and charge usually works and when it doesn’t you can just call EA.

You need the app, plug and charge may not work, the app has always worked for us to activate the charging. The app is far better with the Taycan, then a 911. The 911 functionality is very limited.

That’s good to hear. My concern with using for my 911 wasn’t so much the limited capability as the fact it just doesn’t work much of the time

With that said, I use it all the time in Texas to pre-cool the vehicle before I get into it. It usually works great.
