The dealer doesn't think the two month hold is "real" - rather it is just a placeholder in the computer systems. His info is that 8 weeks is not at all a real delay and the real hold will be up to one month max.

I had a phone call earlier today to say the car is actually in production but they have been informed of additional delays until September or so.

So I can’t change the spec back to the one I changed away from to, I was told, reduce the delay by dropping Bose and racetex B pillar.

I genuinely wish I had never ordered the car.

As an old fashioned Brit one of the worst offences one can perpetrate is to Queue-jump so I didn’t use my friends from racing to get and early slot.
How stupid am I?
It seems the world doesn’t much believe in fair play any more.

I should have noticed that increasing tendency.

Both the Team Principle and one of the winning drivers of the Porsche Le Mans team are friends of mine.
Not sure if they would have that much influence as it rests mostly with your dealer in terms of where you are in the queue and some dealers are independent so wouldn’t (as one centre said to me) bump me up over regular customers. I agree that it’s a bit hit and miss though in terms of the queue. I got lucky with a cancellation that others in that queue declined… it will be worth the wait!

So I now understand.

Back when I was looking into a 993 turbo they told me they wouldn’t knock a penny off but would put me at the front of the queue if I ordered one but that was Porsche UK and I was a Formula 1 technical director rather than a retired old bloke.

FWIW I found it too laggy and the non-turbo a bit slow so I bought a normally aspirated sports car instead.

This will be the first Porsche I have bought, unless you count the Porsche built 1991 Mercedes 500E!

It's felt like a long journey, but I was told my RWD ordered last July is now on a vessel so delivery should be fairly imminent (by end of the month). Fingers crossed for no final slips or issues, but after fairly constant disappointment (first delivery was supposed be before the end of 2021) I am now (cautiously) allowing myself to get a little bit excited...

I’m not sure it’s who you are or even If you come in a chauffeur driven Rolls!

Ultimately, the dealers have the power to put you in the list up or down and they will probably only move people they know who have ordered from them before Or people they are friends with. I am therefore not convinced that name dropping someone in Porsche would work unless it’s someone who has influence on how many cars that dealer gets or someone high up in that company..

For example, if you want a GT3 you would probably need to be a special customer who has bought 10 cars from them to even go on the list. You can buy one new at £140k but you can sell them for £250k. If not you would get laughed out. Dealers get like 1 a year maybe of these cars.

Remember, all car companies have this issue and some are a lot worse (even Audi)…. It’s just about patience even though you just want to get it now!

Good luck though hopefully you get a slot soon!

GTS ST update - just been advised that due on ongoing supply chain issues. At the current run rate, my car is likely to be built March/April with a June/July delivery.
18 months from order - delivery.

I'll work from that same timeline as we ordered similar times and basically same number on our dealer's order list.

However, I assume that's just pie in the sky from your dealer to at least tell you something (and keep you excited).

Excited is not a phrase i'd use at this time................I'm of the opinion its a 'best guess' at the current run rate/build allocation.

I test drove the BMW I4 40 M Sport last week. I want something interim with a good range that's fun to drive.

I never planned to ever own a BMW. However, I was very impressed. It's the best EV I have driven outside of the Taycan.

The issue is of course... supply. Waiting to hear from the dealer if they have anything nationally I can cash n drive away.

It got me thinking, I would be quite happy with the I4 even if the Taycan never materialised. Perhaps I am losing interest.

I've been a BMW addict for a very long time. I've had models ranging from an M3 up to the XB7 Alpina. I'm currently driving an iX 50i - and I'm really really not a fan. While the handling is very dull, and I'm sure that the i4 won't have that issue, I absolutely HATE iDrive 8. It's so insanely hard to even adjust the A/C, turn on steering wheel heat etc.

It's one of the many reasons I'm excited to trade out of it and into my CT4S.

The issue is, i need an estate for the dog. the i4 doesnt work for my needs. The iX is repulsive. The Audi' e-tron GT lovely but boot issue. The Lotus Eletre looks interesting but much prefer the Taycan.

Wait for the Taycan. It'll be worth it.

I hope. :D
