The WMP2 update is to downgrade the charger to half of its charging capability. They are overheating and melting plugs. After the WMP2, it will take twice as long to charge the car.

Based on the specifications of the Porsche Mobile Charge Connect device I acquired with my Taycan, I paid an electrician to install a 50 AMP circuit so as to realize the maximum charging rate specified for the charging device.

The issue described in the letter clearly indicates that the Porsche Mobile Charge Connect does not meet its specifications and, accordingly, Porsche is obligated to replace the device under warranty with one that meets specifications.

This should be a warranty item and we should get a free Porsche Mobile Charger replacement that works as advertised.

Could you please provide a little more detail, on what the update was? Did it come OTA?

Has this not been superceded with the OTA update for PMCCs (globally) - a week or so ago?

Impact for US customers is to default max current to 20A (40A.prior - so 50A seems on the high side) to reduce heat. Can be overridden but a pain to do each charging cycle.

Please refer to the rather extensive thread by @Dave EV trending on this forum.

The dealer did the charger update and never explained what the downgrade to the charger was. Received a letter today explaining the 50% reduction in charging capability. I to had a 50 amp circuit installed. It is now taking me twice as long to charge my car. I agree Porsche needs to replace all the chargers if defective vs asking us to accept a 50% reduction in charging capability.

This topic has been extensively covered under a thread titled "class action lawsuit" (which it will likely never become). However, writing Porsche NA may not be a bad idea to address how badly Porsche has handled the issue.

Ignore the letter as the software change was push automatically to any PMCC that was WiFi connected. Note that you can manually reset to 40A each time you charge which brings you back to 9.6kW.

Technically you haven't lost out but becomes a pain to reset each time as the PMCC (NA only) will default back to 20A.

As advised by others please follow the primary thread on this.

I received the letter two days ago.

The 50 AMP service is total available. The charging device determines how much of that it can take. The charger is rated a 40 AMPS but now they want to down grade it to 20 AMPS because they are afraid (read "the lawyers told them") it might overheat. Well, that is their responsibility, not mine as the paying customer.

They need to replace the Porsche Mobile Chargers they believe are faulty.

You can still run at 40A.is the point BUT need to manually adjust from 20A on each use.

but you risk the overheating issue

honestly abandon the crappy PMCC/PMC+ and get an EVSE from a company than cares about EV's

WallBox/ClipperCreek/ChargePoint/Tesla/others…

Keep in mind the new VW CEO still really really likes "carbon neutral" gasoline as a "path foward"…the legacy auto manufacturers just really really want to close their eyes and hope that when they wake up this whole EV thing will have disappeared…

It WILL overheat. Mine did. I suggest this thread be closed at the primary thread contains a lot of useful info. I'm responding here only to make sure my fellow owners take this seriously.

....which confirms this is a product defect Porsche needs to assume responsibility for.

I do not have the wifi enabled charger and when I went in for the big update, I took the charger out of the car so they could not mess with it. My service documents had the campaign and the tech wrote no charger provided. The dealer never asked.

I followed @daveo4EV advice when preparing for the car delivery and bought a ChargePoint Homeflex. The Porsche charger is in the trunk incase I was somewhere and needed it.
