You can short cut the options by double tapping the unlock button on the key fob which will send a signal to unlock all doors.

The setting was indeed just open driver side doors.
I am hoping the apparent randomness was me sometimes pressing the unlock button twice without realising it not real…
I have set it to be like the sort of central locking I am used to.

I'm always surprised there isn't an option to only open the two front doors – the situation I'd use most of the time. All the other combinations are supported though !

I set mine up to only open the drivers door, then double tap the key fob when I have 'guests'.

It was the same on last few cars I've owned and is habit now.

...... Its more secure that way, if you are the only one in the car.
You can't have some random run over and jump into the passenger side unexpectedly (car jacking etc).

That would have to be a really athletic burglar. Maybe we should invite him to show uw how to jump into the car. Even with the CT I can get in in an almost normal way but getting in fast en fluent like in my X5 would be difficult.

It happened to a friend a number of years ago, in an M3 Coupe in Manchester.
Jumped in and pulled a gun on him and told him to get out.

He got out and the car drove off and he never saw it again.

Unbelievably, the insurers were difficult as he 'left the key in the ignition'.

I may well change the setting if I ever drive into a city, good idea.

Thanks,
I shall do that once it is light.
What gives concern is why it changes.
I haven’t been aware of anything which may have caused it to change since I picked the car up yet the behaviour has.
Well, when you are dealing with software, you always be prepare to expect unexpected

We have different needs…I’d prefer to unlock both doors on driver’s side….so i can put my bag (and/or coat) backseats….but it’s ok,if all doors unlock when i approach to the vehicle.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned or not yet... My car's unlocking has been behaving strangely since the software update a couple of weeks ago and I only discovered why this morning. It was set to 'Unlock all doors in direction of approach', so presumably if you approach the car from the right hand side then the right hand doors will unlock (and ditto the left hand side). Maybe approaching from the rear unlocks them all... I've no idea and can't really be bothered to test it! I've just changed it to 'All doors' so hopefully it will behave itself now.

Is this a new option with the update or did I just never notice it before?

Just got my car.
There are a plethora of options!
It reminds me of my digital SLR cameras which are capable of being set up to do many things which I have no interest in doing and is hard to keep simply enough to be quick reacting, so I don't miss shots.
You’re correct, lots of stuff is configurable. However, the menus are straightforward and working through them is a pleasant experience when you first get the car.

Once you decide what’s right for you, you can leave it that way. A bit like setting your SLR camera in a default mode and then firing off a roll of film without changing anything.

The configurable button is useful. I love the sports sound but don’t want to always drive the car in sports-plus mode, so having a button on the steering wheel to switch on the sound without having to go through the screen menus is helpful.

Perhaps I’ll get bored of it and decide to use it for something else, perhaps not.

If you don’t want to work through the menus then have a look on here.I think I’ll start a thread to get some ideas from other users
