Hi All,

After some advice from those that have collected their cars from the Porsche dealership and whether the experience was worth it.

I placed my order in July 21, so have been waiting a long while but finally have the opportunity to get my new car (my first Porsche) in March.

The car is through Zenith and the Porsche dealership is Colchester which from my home is around 4 hours door to door.

Appreciate your thoughts.

Thanks

Get it delivered. It definitely isn't worth an 8 hour round-trip journey to watch someone pull a rug off your car and help you set up CarPlay.

Also means it will be clean when it arrives at home rather than covered in road grime!!

If there's anything that needs sorting once you've had a chance to inspect the car, this can be done (or at the very least arranged at your convenience) at collection prior to you leaving. Whereas if you have it delivered, you'll be trusting the dealership and have to organise to have anything sorted yourself.

Probably an unlikely scenario, but at collection you'll have the salesman's/dealership's full attention and as soon as the car leaves the dealership...you're on your own.

Why not make a day of it, enjoy the experience and the drive home, new car day doesn't happen very often ??

I hummed and harred, but being an IT tech numpty and never having owned a EV I chose to collect from Porsche Cambridge.

I found having 121 time with the 2 handover techs invaluable and can’t imagine getting the same from a home delivery

Not sure it’s relevant but I also went through Zenith.

The handover experience is underwhelming in general BUT for the Taycan you must make sure everything works with your Porsche Connect ID BEFORE leaving the dealerhip.

You could ask the dealer to log into the car with your credentials and run through some checks then get it delivered.

As others have said can be underwhelming but conversely depends on how much they want to do for you! Defo ensure car setup sorted in advance...I gave them my Porsche login and sorted a password they could use to setup. Once that was sorted and I was home, I changed my password.

Is it Porsche Connect we need to operate the car, or MyPorsche?? Got MyPorsche at the moment with a login etc and it shows what stage my order is at.

It depends on whether you want assistance with car setup etc or not. If not, just have it delivered. I’m the type that just wants to hand them a check and get the keys, so I’d have it delived, but I think a lot of people want to go over the car with their SA and enjoy the event of buying the car. If that’s you, make the trip.

I'm a low profile guy. I don't like parties and I certainly hope nobody is going to "unveil" or put some cheezy red bow on my car on delivery.

However, I want to collect it from the dealer. I want to experience that feeling of slowly driving the car out of the dealership and knowing the car just devaluated 10-20% as it crosses the outer doors ?

It will also be a fun drive home. 440km of highways with one ionity station in the middle. Plenty of time to learn how the car feels.

I'll also learn quickly if I'm able to handle unpredictable detours (if my wife comes with me) and how to cope with last minute planning and charging ?

You need to use the same credentials to log into the PCM in the car for the car to be accessible and on line.

Agreed. Except is that from Porsche Connect or My Porsce, or are they now one and the same?

Yes, but on the other hand, delivery is a useful way of getting your car use to riding on a lorry!!
