I left them off my first Taycan (4S) because they were silver and the badging at the rear was gloss black. And there seemed to be no way to option in the electric badge colour.

However, on my current Turbo S the electric badge defaults to gloss black – so I did leave it on – and actually quiet like it. Folks on the street when asking questions about the car – do seem to notice it too – and will say things like: I didn't know Porsche made an electric car, etc.

At the end of the day it's a pretty inconspicuous badge that can easily be removed. Surprising that something so small can be so polarising!

So this is an option I debated for quite some time. I really went back and forth on this, much more than I should probably admin. At the end, I optioned it for the car. When I thought about it, I dont agree with the argument that you shouldn't have it because it is silly to put 'electric' on an electric car. There is a long history of auto manufactures applying a badging which represents something special about the drivetrain. Here are some examples:

VW with the 16v badging

There was once a time where the BMW model number directly related to engine displacement. A 328i has a 2.8 liter fuel injected engine, and all was well with the world. Mercedes used to do the same thing. It doesn't always mean performance either, it could be a diesel badge, or a 1.8T/2.0T badge on an Audi. Quattro means it's the AWD version of the car. It's always been used as a nod to the car savvy that this particular car has something special going on under the hood. Porsche themselves isn't always discrete with their badging either.

So, for me, I wanted it because it isn't obvious that the Taycan is an electric car. Frankly, the 'electric' badge makes a lot more sense than the 'turbo' trim level, in my opinion.

Yeah, I totally baulked at this but it's just decals rather than painted on isn't it? So my advice to anyone tempted, get it and see what you think then if you don't like it'll be pretty easy to remove
Not something I would want, as I typically remove all the badging I can from all my cars, but it's not just a decal. You can buy it for $79 from suncoast.

The purpose of such badges or emblems is to inform people outside about the car. So the question really is, what do you want people around the car to know about the car. In this case, is the "electric" emblem so they don't mistake it for another model, someone thinking Taycan is diesel or petrol perhaps?. The example you gave on the Mustang, this is to tell people you have the top of the line car, which is important to some people who pay for said trim. Heck, while I personally couldn't care less (I like the clean look of no badges), I have seen some people get VERY worked up over others buying lower trim cars and putting higher trim badges on them - all kinds of people in this world.

I hear you. Drive an E36 M3 and you will eventually get the question whether or not it 'Is a REAL M3'? So many rebadged cars on bodykits made everyone suspicious of everything.

I left them on and delighted I did - colour picks up on the silver in the centre badges and the rims- public like it too, generally people are unaware but fascinated that’s it’s an EV. Mind you, I’ve yet to see another with it.

Not the same.
V6 / V8 / V10.etc denotes a detail about the engine, not the fuel used to run it...
Are you aware of any V6, 8 or 10s that aren’t gas powered? Even the hybrids need gas.
So it does in fact indicate how it’s powered, just with a bit more specificity.
If we’re going to nitpick, people should be more up in arms about a “turbo” designation on an EV rather than highlighting what it actually is, which is in fact electric.

No doubt, but doesn't spell out what fuel the car runs on, which is the point.

lol it doesn’t? what fuel do those engines run on?
I'm not debating what the engines run on, we were debated if stating it on the side of a car is really necessary. Personally I don't think so, you may think otherwise.
