Hey everyone! I'm hoping someone can help me out here -- so basically there's a 2021 4S with pretty solid specs, andit's CPO, but the only issue is that it's got 45 000 miles on it (70 000 km). I'm located in Canada, where the new luxury car tax has kept prices of used Taycans quite high. Basically, it'd be for around 83K USD (~114k CAD), and they will be throwing in a set of Aero winter tires with rims (valued at $6k CAD).

I brought up my concerns about the mileage, and the dealer told me the battery life isn't a concern and that the battery is covered under warranty for 10 years (until 2031), irrespective of mileage, and that CPO process will ensure that there's no issues with the battery. He denied range degradation. The car is otherwise in pristine condition. I really, really love the Taycan and want to get one, but I don't want to make a stupid decision. They also do have another 4S with lower mileage (50000 km / 30000 miles), but it is a 2020 and has less addons.

Would appreciate any insight or advice. Thank you!!

FWIW here are the specs BLACK/BORDEAUX LEATHER - PREMIUM PACKAGE - SPORT CHRONO PACKAGE - PORSCHE ELECTRIC SPORT SOUND - PERFORMANCE BATTERY PLUS - ALL-SEASON TIRES FOR 20INCH WHEELS -20INCH TAYCAN TURBO AERO WHEELS -PASSENGER DISPLAY -HEAD-UP DISPLAY -ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL -VEHICLE CABLE 7.5M -ON-BOARD 150 KW DC-CHARGER -CHARGING DOCK -MOBILE CHARGER CONNECT -PORSCHE INTELLIGENT RANGE MANAGER -ELECTRIC FOLDING EXTERIOR MIRRORS -WINDOW TRIM IN BLACK (HIGH-GLOSS) -HEATED FRONT AND REAR SEATS -REAR SEAT IN 2+1 CONFIGURATION -SMOKING PACKAGE -ADVANCED CLIMATE CONTROL, 4-ZONE -PORSCHE CREST EMBOSSED ON FRONT AND REAR HEADRESTS

I purchased a CPO 2020 4S for 87k (147k original sticker) with roughly around same mileage in June this year. Zero issues w/ battery so far. And actually I feel more comfortable knowing that it was used daily and didn't have any type of known battery failure (perfectly maintained service history). Knowing that I still have CPO warranty even way past the 50k original limit is the only reassurance i needed. Just pull the trigger on the spec you want and enjoy it. Bear in mind that the climate will be the most extreme factor effecting the range (as with all EVs) and from experience (AC in Summer / Winter Cold) i still find my Taycan is range estimates still far more consistent/reliable than my prev 2022 Tesla M3 LR , (which i found the range to be significantly overestimated and in real world the Taycan w/ performance batt is as good/if not better in terms of range & range hits overall in my experience)

As others have said-- you should not have any concerns. CPO warranty plus the 10yr battery warranty -- you should be more than covered. I'd not hesitate to buy that CPO if I were you-- sounds like a reasonable deal overall.

I recommend you ask the dealership for a battery State of Health (SoH) measurement. See this thread:
My 2020 Taycan from when I purchased it new seemed to have much shorter range than reported by others on the forum, so I bought an OBDII code reader and measured 75% SoH at ~35,000 miles, which would trigger warranty service if verified by the dealership. Unfortunately the dealership could not verify the SoH until ~40,000 miles, at which point the battery warranty had taken a step function such that it would only guarantee 70% SoH after 37,750 miles. (BTW I had to pay $700 out of pocket for the service technician to drive my Taycan from 95% to <10% state of charge with the PIWIS connected in order to verify what I measured with the OBDII reader!) But then last week my Taycan threw the red "Electrical System Failure" error and had to be towed to the dealership, where they determined that the $51,000 battery must be replaced under warranty, and with the improved battery chemistry provided with model year 2021+. To wrap up this long story, although the battery has a long warranty, you may avoid significant pain if you determine pre-purchase whether the SoH is good.

I believe the battery warranty is only eight years or 80,000 miles. You should ask the dealer to show you the specific battery warranty in writing. Perhaps he’s increasing the warranty.

for more information on the warranty discussion that happened on the Taycan forum check out this link

I bought my 2021 Turbo in July at 72k km, no issues so far other that what everyone else is having even with new cars. If optically is in great condition and battery SOH 88-90% I'd go for it.

All the responses have been extremely informative and helpful - thank you everyone! I'm going to ask the dealer for a battery SOH as suggested by a few people here, and assuming everything looks okay, I'll likely go forward with it!

I just noticed that you live in Canada. The warranty for your high voltage battery might be different in Canada than it is in the US.

Please let us know what you learn regarding the battery warranty being offered on this vehicle.

So as it turns out, the "standard" battery warranty in Canada is 8 years from in-service date / 130 000 km, but in this case there's a special warranty being offered of 10 years from in-service date (2031 in this case) and unlimited mileage. Apparently the warranty is activated when battery capacity falls below 70% of baseline. I'm still waiting for them to give me a battery health report.

With that in mind, do you think it's safe to move forward with this? There's a nearby dealership with a 2020 4S with much lower mileage (~28 000km or 17000 miles), but it is missing many of the specs that this one has. It is priced quite similarly.

Go for it and enjoy. Life is short to worry about it

so in this situation, would the warranty cover the battery if it’s fine and at >70% capacity, and then you incur some sort of battery failure that requires a replacement?

asking as a fellow Canuck

Post here both specs so we can see exactly the differences.
I won't buy a low spec car or color I don't like even if it comes with new battery.

I think it all comes down to the battery health report. If your SoH is 90% or better I would go for it.

A lesser number (say 80%) would bother me because it reduces effective range for longer trips (for example, on my car an 80% SoH would translate into only 208 miles at 100% charge, and 177 miles at 85% charge). Both seem low to me.

That said, I do like the 10 year, unlimited miles warranty. If I wasn't planning on lots of long trips that might tip the scales.
